Default Weather

I thought I'd start a stand alone thread.

Storm Oscar has now fizzled out towards Norway, but it gave them almost 1m of snow! The difference the Jet Stream Position and a cold front can make!

Before the media starts doom mongering, there's a potentially even bigger one coming Weds/Thurs/Fri. All depends on how fast the Jet stream is moving.

Some reporters are already saying could be the biggest in 15 years! Lets see what the media turns it into.

At the moment its tracking right, to the north of England, with its strongest point due south, which unlike Oscar, puts the wind right over us.

Yes, as the Low Pressure area moves east, it drags in cold air behind it, the models are showing a cold air pocket that covers the southern half of England. Any following precipitation is more likely to fall as snow. Still a few days off though.

The BBC has rain for Orpington all day on Monday and some strong winds midweek. Got a TFA weather station at Christmas, but not sure how useful it will be other than giving me an in/out temp reading

Growing Confidence that the precipitation will turn to Snow over Weds Night. Red is Snow/ Green Sleet / Blue Rain

Depending on how wet the ground is, might just fall rather than lay.

It will all be melted within a few hours. Probably a couple of centimeters that will cause complete chaos in the UK!

Nice, Amber warning for up your way now. But its only for tomorrow. The storm heats it all up and turns to rain again....but.....

After it passes over, the area of Low pressure gets blocked, which finally forces the Jetstream away and south. So it looks like from Monday, the Temp should begin to drop away again, and a lot.

Just ran the data for 8 days time and beyond. Now bare in mind these are what the computer thinks the current data * predicted data will do.

Those wanting snow may get it, the beast from the east looks to be stirring.

Snowed hard in Crawley about 30 mins ago and settled about half inch deep in under 10 mins. Eased off now though and don't think there's much more to come...

Those from the south looking desperately for some snow, like I am, Its all gone tits up!

Its going to be bitterly cold for the next 5 days, but we're under a rather stubborn area of high pressure, which has pushed the jet stream away, but also all the precipitation! Bugger! So its Frost in the mornings for at least 5 days now, then it warms up.

So unless we get another HP flow that moves the jet stream south again, which I cant see for at least 20 days on the charts, winter is over !

There's a weather warning for Thursday - as there may be 1-3 cm of snow. FFS if it's 1-3 metres then give a warning but not for 1-3cm!! That's not snow...

Its a joke isn't it, Norway get it in meters rather than cm's and they carry on as normal, we get a single flake and the whole country goes bonkers.

well last Saturday drove from Horsham to Aberdeen in the Passat, yes the really low Passat running 19" alloys, hmm, not the best plan I thought,

got up Saturday morning, bit of snow outside, oh s**t I thought, then my spy in Scotland, cheers Scotty, said A9 was shut, made my day.

Got to Copthorne to drop Jag off at in laws for return on Sunday via Gatwick and Passat almost got stuck in snow.

so how was the journey? well Copthorne was the worst snow I saw, and I got to Aberdeen in my best time yet! I love my Passat.

Jo - please look after the car while you are up there, I have come attached to it now,

They really are cracking motors, I miss mine, wouldn't have a newer one though, can't be doing with that stupid electric hand break
Would love a W8 wagon.
Sorry, this is a weather thread, I'm prepared to be stuck in 1cm of snow in Crawley on Thursday, maybe I should book a hotel room now.

Just shows how hard predicting the weather is... we've got more snow this morning than at any time so far this winter... until about 9pm the forecast showed nothing.

Its because the other day the Jetstream was still over us, running west to east, today and tomorrow, it buckles and goes way south, loops around and then runs north to south. It quite a thing of beauty. We get trapped in a pocket of cold air now for about 5 days.
