Interestingly there is a lot of debate about if the big port are worth it....

It appears to be the difference of low from inlet to exhaust that are critical, look at this for some interesting reading

Cheers, interesting and the gains look pretty impressive..... I had looked at these before but the cost put me off a bit to start with especially if you don't have good condition heads to exchange!

Does anyone know what or if there are any specific codes for Big Port Heads? I've had a look around and it appears that heads starting with RHT and LHT (maybe V8) are definitely big port heads but I've also seen on a few other places that heads starting with RHS20V and LHS20V are also big port but opinions differ!

I had heads starting with RHH on my bug which I think are 2.5 heads but the replacement ones I got have rhs20v and lhs20v on them..... there is a massive difference in the intake ports.....

old heads

replacement heads

Any ideas!?!

After looking through lots of threads on various forums I've come to the conclusion and identified these heads with the casting Id numbers as definitely being Big Port Heads!

Couldn't of found that out on Facebook!
