Default New (2nd hand) exhaust

Hi guys and girls, been a while since I last posted so thought it was about time I dusted off my screen name.

Took my very 1st trip to Jap Performance Parts in Crawley on wednesday and from the moment I stepped in the place I was like a kid in a sweet shop! That place is a modders gold mine!

I came away with a Kakimoto 3'' exhaust and drove straight round to Austec and the guys there fitted it for me pretty much straight away, a very productive day I thought.

Not a great photo so please excuse guys.

Not much louder over the Prodrive system but much lighter and much better looking, in my eyes anyway

On a finishing note can see me having many more trips back to Jap Performance Parts, have already eyed up a set of STI front calipers.

No not yet fooi.

Just wanted a bit more of that awesome boxer sound for the time being.

Next on my list are the brakes, then will be looking at de-cating as well as ecu mapping.

Worth considering your options for front brakes rather than just grabbing a set of brembos from JPP. They used to sell for about £600 as used calipers/discs/pads. I had the same decision when replacing my 4pots, and if the brembo discs/pads are half worn, it might actually be cheaper in long run to get a ksport kit - which will be more powerful too

My concern with buying second hand calipers is that they might need a refurb - how long have they sat off the car, and are any of the pistons sticky?

A fair point made Steve, heard from someone the K-Sport's were cheaply made, did think to myself that's odd seeming as time attack cars use them.

I'd heard the same but assumed it was just what the AP fanboys were saying to justify the extra grand they spent instead

I went for the 8 pot 356mm kit, very impressed. Used them on track (Nurburgring and Goodwood so far) and no fade with bluestuff NDXs, even after 15-20mins constant abuse.

The other thing i've been hearing about brembos lately is damaged threads when being removed from the old car - a lot seem to need re-tapping.

the K-sports are bulit to a budget and std components whilst "reasonable" are not up to AP Racing type quality, but they do have their place at the price their pitched........

do NOT get sucked into various race/TimeAttack cars using them they must be fantastic scenario as most (certainly all that i'm aware of) run with a mixture of AP / Performance Friction components and its only the brackets and calipers that are actually Ksport........

I agree with you Alyn, they're not the same build quality as APs. But then for half the price, they're great value in comparison (apart from the ksport pads, of course )

For people like me who only do a couple of trackdays a year, a set of ksports will probably still outlive the life of the car.
