Jack advice
My jack has had it so I'm looking at buying a new one, seen this an it seems pretty good value for a basic kit (only need a jack but always wanted a trolley
 )...http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...&storeId=10001 Try to avoid halfords kit usually but will only be required for the odd jobs here an ther so wondered if anyone had any experience with one? Also will it fit under a new age at standard ride height or would I need a low level jack?

i bought this and couldnt get it under mine wasnt deep/long enough to get to correct lift points,on a car with standard ride height maybe, ended up buying a blue point one instead.. stands and bits are ok from halfrauds thou..

I had the Halfords kit thrown in with my tool box, I can't get the jack under the car and if I use the old trick when jacking a classic of using the towing eye the wheel barely leaves the ground. Works fine on the rear if you put it under the diff but could do with more height to allow you to get axle stands in.
You really need a low profile jack to allow you to get under the front suspension mounts.

The low level one at halfords always worked well for us and my boy always has his cars slammed and still gets under.

Thanks for all the input. Whilst the aluminium one looks great, it may be a little overkill for my needs and won't see enough use to justify. I'm thinking that this will suffice and is cheaper than the Halfords equivalent...

Thread is a few week old but wanted to throw this in.....
That jack is rubbish. I got the exact same one and where the wheels connect it bent the metal and cracked it. This was while lifting my Mondeo ST so not a heavy car.... Took it back into halfords and they said tough..... I must have been using it wrong avoid! i got a low profile one from demon tweaks and its amazing

Seeing as the threads been revived I should probably update... I ended up getting impatient that weekend and decided I couldn't wait for Internet delivery as I wanted to use some time I had that day. Ended up at halfords and went for their low level jack as I could walk away with it there and then plus it came with a set of free axel stands, which was a bonus.
It's probably not the world's best but I hav used it a few times now and its done the job. It's not going to get used too often due to my basic mechanical capabilities (I'm much more comfortable driving it than tinkering with it!). The only downside I can mention (and i doubt any jack would have provided a different outcome to be fair) was that in order for me to me able to achieve one of the tasks I had set out to complete, I needed a much higher lift than a jack and axel stands provided.

If ever in a hurry for jack then i got a few aluminium lightweight low level jacks from machine mart. Not bad for the money, similar to the others mentioned.
