SES over 15 years old
SES now than 15 years old. Hopefully it will keep going ,but with the current level of activity I'm not too confident.

Yes, 15 years in Sept 23. Time flies.
We'll have to have some talks behind the scenes re: the future of the forum as its currently costing me £175/yr to host and whilst I'd love to keep it going, it's not getting the traffic to warrant the cost these days. We used to get donations from members that offset that cost for many years, but that's long dried up. If the forum does go, we'll always continue to exist on facebook but I know that doesn't suit everyone. |

Hi Steve,thanks for being there . Certainly the quietest I've ever known on here and Certainly shouldn't be funded by you. I even have access to Facebook now,but don't use it much. If SES was to move there in a similar format I could cope and maybe younger members would be more active with a forum they are more familiar with.

I'd be happy to contribute, but agree very little activity on here. Not a great Facebook user,but if I knew SES was using it as a platform I can access it and it is probably more agreeable to the younger members, ie those under 60 🤪🤪

Hi Guys,
I hope you are all well. I miss the site as it was, and the friends I made. Im not on facebook so missed out a bit when it migrated towards that. This club will probably be the best and most memorable car club I ever belonged to. I belong to the local Porsche club and have for a few years but it doesn't come close. I, for one would happily donate to keep this moving and am happy to get involved again if it was to ever be pushed forward. I’m just not sure how many people are left or would rejoin. I know everyone moves on. I still look at hawk’s on Pistionheads , so who knows!. That illusive RB320 may happen one day

I often wondered if you still had the old girl. I guessed you would as that would be hard to part with. Yeah, I’d be up for a meet up somewhere at some point. Maybe see how many we can get. Beachy head in the summer or something. 👍

Hi Steve/Ian, finally looked on SES and found the last post. I still have my STi, only done 20,000 kms !! Should be back in the UK for a few days end of September and would definitely be up for a meet,even if only the 3 of us.

Definitely up for meeting up.
After 5 years, the Porsche went a couple of weeks ago, so now just in the Tesla. I did have a little look through the Subaru’s for sale though 😂

Unfortunately not a great move for the planète Steve. Batteries don't make electricity, they only store it. Most of the electricity to charge them is non green. Plus Batteries are not recyclable. So that's my rant over,how are you and the family? Keep looking at the Subaru's for sale,you know it makes sense.

It’s a funny one the whole EV thing. I am still a petrol head and still intend on getting something ICE for the garage.
But, as someone who has now run a Tesla for over 2 years and 17000 miles there is no getting away from the fact that they are much cheaper to run day to day. Its performance is on a different level, even compared to the Porsche and it’s full of incredible tech that doesn't glitch and is constantly updated adding new features which improves the car. I’m still not convinced how environmentally friendly they really are in their production etc, but as a daily it’s just miles ahead. I’m on octopus so charge at night at 7p PKWH. So a full charge is around £4. In the real world that’s 250 miles comfortably, not the 310 they say. So I could charge it every week to 10 days though in reality it’s just easier to plug it in when home and it keeps it topped up and cuts off when it’s at whatever percentage you want. I recently took it to LeMans. Charged before I left, so £4. Drove to LeMans on that charge with around 20% left. Charged on a supercharger in Lemans which took 20 mins to get from 20% to 80%, so had a bacon sarnie and coffee whilst that was happening. That charge cost 13 euros so around £11. Drove home. So the trip cost me £15 for around 400 miles. Then there is no road tax, or servicing. Bad points: Insurance is high. The Porsche was £280 for a year. The tesla is £900!!. Depreciation isn’t good, but I lease it so no worries there and its company car tax in virtually nothing. Where they are not so cheap to charge is at service stations or chargers that aren’t Tesla. A recent trip to wales saw around £25 for a charge from 20% to 90%. Still cheaper than fuel but not as cheap as Tesla chargers or home. So, my conclusion is that there is a place for both. If like me you charge at home most of the time and then use Tesla chargers on journeys which are in most places now, it’s cheap and easy. I honestly love driving the tesla and very often will jump into it as it’s so easy. But, it’ will never stir the soul or put a smile on your face like my scoobs, Focus RS or Porsche. They just have a character that an electric car will never have. While I’m lucky enough to have both, I will continue to as I don’t want an ICE as a daily. But I don’t want an electric car as my weekend toy. What happens when at some point I have to choose…………….

Some interesting points there. Octopus does seem to be good for EV owners, one of my colleagues is on their agile tariff and charges his Tesla overnight at home and also from his solar/home battery - although that's only about 10KW so only a going to put ~15% back into the Tesla battery?
But the investment in solar/battery was over £10k on the house. The Tesla cost more than a decent ICE car of equivalent size/spec, plus depreciates a lot faster. Just not sure it makes sense yet. I'm sure it will in the future... but who knows when the tipping point will be? What will be interesting is when the vehicle-to-grid (VTG) and vehicle-to-house (VTH) technology becomes common place. The idea of charging your car at night when cheap, then using the car's battery to run your home appliances during the day instead of peak pricing per KWh sounds awesome. Electricity prices are determined by the demand at a particular time of day, so if you work from home and have the VTG tech, surely a car becomes a money-making asset? Charge it at night when cheap, sell the power back to the grid when the demand is high? Will certainly be interesting to see where we are in 5-10 years... |
