Default European Rallycross Championship 2012 R1 - Lydden Hill

Bit later than planned, but finally got my photos from the first round of the European Rallycross Championship posted, as held at (the very not sunny) Lydden Hill.

The weather started bad on Sunday, with showers and fog...

...before turning to total crap on Monday. Needed more than that to stop me though!

Super 1600's line up, the 2012 season about to kick off...

Foust on his way to victory, his drive in the “A” Final was pretty much flawless.

Koutny attempts a reverse corner entry:

Jeanney coming in hot. I actually thought he’d messed up and was going to stuff the car in front of me, but he skimmed the inside of the bend a couple of times: very awesome!

Somewhere in this picture is a DS3:

Some drivers just couldn't wait for the racing to start before they started exchanging paint...

Having nearly wiped me and a marshall out, Koutny recovers his car, this gives you an idea how swampy the dirt sections got.

Pat Doran was one of several UK hopefuls who didn't have a great weekend, with multiple turbo changes required.

This was a pretty common sight over the course of the weekend. By the end of racing on Monday all the Marshall posts had piles of recovered car parts beside them.

Many tyres were killed over the course of the weekend:

Following the completion of qualification it was announced that Liam Doran had been disqualified due to his car running an illegal spoiler...

...needless to say some very rapid adjustments were made to get the car legit and back out in time for the heats.

Unsurprisingly the dismal weather meant the obligatory Monster girls were showing a bit less flesh...

...(should have got some Northern birds in, they don't feel the cold).

One Scoob you're not going to lose in the car park...

An easy challenge, but for 10 internet points, identify the car...

...not really a clue, but a shot of the very tidy rear diffuser/exhaust exit on the same car.

Job done:

Steve Hill in his Evo. Something behind the grill looks “quite warm”!

And that’s your lot!

Despite the weather being total turd there was still some cracking racing and, although being trackside in better conditions would have been preferable, it was still a blast. The Supercars look awesome from a distance, but have them pass by (and throw rocks at me) was even better still. Going to need to blag my way trackside again next year!

Cheers mate, I'm starting to get the hang of panning shots now, but still much more practise required!

Was a shame the weather was so pony, as I'm sure I'd have got more decent pictures, but it was still a brilliant couple of days!

I'd have been shocked if you didn't know what it is!

I'm not sure on the exact specification, but I think the engine is a hybrid of Evo generations (it used to be), plus variable valve timing isn't allowed in the rallycross Supercars either.

Whatever that is, it looks quite warm!

Just been watching some of the action on Motors, weather certainly looked shocking! Some of the in-car stuff was near zero visibility.
