Default Track Day Lydden Hill....

Track Day list for Lydden Hill if anyones interested...

I may (depending on car) be brave and give it a go for June or July...small track, hard on the brakes and tyres but good fun so im told...

http://www.lyddenhill.co.uk/track-days-lydden-hill

3rd June for the first next one...

No drive by noise testing (even though it says there is) and static is listed as 100db but rarely enforced...

Ryan

nope - just helmet, long sleeves, and full length trousers... - follow the link and have a look at the requirements which includes details on payments for passengers e.t.c.

Decent harder compound tyres are a must, it's one of the most abrasive tracks you will do and tyres don't last that long. I ran Goodyear eagle f1's and were useless as they were to soft therefore got to hot and ended up pointless as the under steer was ridiculous.
Was a hot day though.

No drive by noise testing you say.......

Important not to get confused at Lydden and accidentally switch on to the rally cross circuit!

Didn't do a full track day but did a couple of 20min sessions in the old scooby and never noticed it that hard on the tyres , although i couldn't say the same for the crap brakes pads supplied with k-sports brakes

Well thought I had better just check and see what sort of noise I am actually making................. think I'm screwed for brands or goodwood

Static - 500mm away / 5000rpm / 45 degree angle = 103.2dB / 103.3dB / 103.3dB / 103.3dB / 103.3dB

Driveby - 6metres away / 7250rpm / 4th gear / 105mph = 99.8dB / 102.3dB / 101.9dB

Used two different noise monitors and compared averages and these were the quietest....

Hopefully Lydden won't be strict

Although might squeeze yellow limit at brands although 92dB at 20metres might be pushing it...

The car did all the hard work and makes me look a lot better then I am, I'm just a squidgy organic thing that turns the wheel and taps the pedals, about time it got driven with some vigour and menace!

I saw you guys down there! Both looked (and sounded) the nuts! Must admit I have a soft spot for a Bugeye tbh

I was in the Intermediate group in the little silver 106 with yellow wheels if you saw it?

Rdlangy1 I think you were in the group with my mates brother in the red 206? Think it spun in front of you

Just a quick heads up - I had a quick chat to the photographer just before we left at lunch time and he said the pictures will be available from snapshotpics.co.uk

Think I did five 20 minute sessions, missed a morning session to give the car a break and went out with Ryan in another session plus I left before the last session. No idea on how many laps, a lot!

The tyres are looking very well used, the tarmac is abrasive and very hard on tyres that are a softer compound, my Nankangs are 100 treadwear which I think is the same as an 888. The front left in particular takes a pounding and has lost its square, flat profile, now covered in ridges, lumps and bumps.

For £80 a corner however they were pretty good and remained quite predictable however hard I pushed them.

Looking at the in car vids (only session 2 at minute as rest are still uploading), Rob was averaging 52-53 seconds per lap.

Based on 20mins session time, I would say around 20-23 laps per session, so over 100 laps for 5 sessions...

Obviously that's using very rounded figures.

By tomorrow Rob, Ill have your fastest lap times for each session

And mine

And also have some vids up - although no sound as for some reason my stupid camera decided not to record any Audio

So having driven Brands and Lydden which do you prefer?
Lydden looks as if it might be more fun?

Brands is a better track, nicer location and a nice, professional race track experience when you consider the grandstands, pit lane and garages etc.

You are spot on though, Lydden is more fun and great for more of a racing feeling, it's got an exciting grass roots feel about it. It may be a simple little track but I can't wait to do it again!

Good for him!

I know why they have the limits and blah, blah, blah, but come on, it's a bloody race track and we're talking a couple of decibels...!

Well hopefully - here are some vids - although apologies as there is no sound, which really doesn't do them any justice as to how hard the cars are being pushed...

Ryan 2nd Session:

(Watch for Jason's Skyline at 10mins 24 secs )

Approx Fastest Lap: 53.40 seconds

Rob 2nd Session:

Approx Fastest Lap: 52.87 seconds

Ryan 3rd Session: (Rob's Passenger Lap)

Approx Fastest Lap: 53.63 seconds

Rob's 3rd Session: (Ryan's Passenger Lap)

(Note the Caterham kicking up the kitty litter at 6:05 and chipping the middle of Rob's screen)

Also chasing down Jason in his Skyline from 15:04

Approx Fastest Lap: 52.33 Seconds

Rob's 4th Session: (Red Flagged halfway round due to incident)

Approx Fastest Lap: 54.63 seconds

Then for some reason whilst uploading the last vid after the red flag the camera decided to corrupt the file. However I can tell you Rob was atleast a second quicker, last night I timed it at 51.03 seconds

Great day, with great company, and good fun!

And wowsa - those tyres did take a beating, but you were quick, and did a good amount of laps on them... grip level was immense (my opinion from having to hold on for dear life!)

My brakes were only 200 miles from new so needed some bedding in....

I think now they are well and truely bed in - with the calipers getting so hot, that the k-sport logo changed colour to match the wheels on the near side!

Here's the offside and original silver colour logo!

Just watched some of the vids looks a lot of fun! Shame about the sound, nice camera mount position! Robs front tyre looks nicely heat cycled, what pads did you put in with k-sports Ryan?

You could both probably do with implementing some form of ducting / extra cooling to the front brakes, perhaps some wind deflectors on the wishbones 911 style.

Circuit looked quite bumpy from the videos?

EBC Yellow Stuff... have to admit on my first session I was riding the brakes - and where the new turbo has no blanket, by the time I finished I had spongy brakes and the fluid reservoir was at 80 degrees Celsius.

After a little heat wrap round it and me stomping on the brakes hard rather than p*ssy footing about, I had decent braking and reservoir was down to 70 degrees Celsius.

Turbo hit the dizzy heights of 450 degrees Celsius and brakes 300 degrees Celsius although nearside was always 50 degrees higher than the offside...

Track is very undulated with interesting camber changes mid straight and especially on the last corner down the hill...
