Sky has so much cash in their back pocket, I'd be surprised if they hadn't tapped him up already for a new show on Sky 1...

So Chris Evans has signed a 3 year deal, interested to know who his co-presenters will be.

Has he?

I think he'll be a good replacement, but I guess that ends speculation about TFI Friday coming back for a full series.... watch it on Friday and it was great

He has! An official BBC announcement, story is on the site/news app too.

I think he is the best option the BBC had and seems to get on well with the original Top Gear lads from what I can tell, so should be in safe hands. Time will tell, filming starts in a few weeks apparently!

It says on the BBC that it's an All New line up and Hammond and May are not involved.

2500+ Negative comments on the Top gear FB page in the first 20 mins, you could say its a very marmite choice.

I personally think its a good one, as much as I like Top gear, I feel it lost its way a while ago. Not enough actually about cars anymore.

Clarkson, Hammond & May are all in South Africa doing there own show at the moment so they will stay as a team, think Chris Evans is a good choice but whoever does the show will always be compared to Clarkson, Hammond & May as they made it there show

Unfortunately the public opinion of Chris Evans is polluted by media opinion.
I had a tainted view of Chris Evans until I read his autobiography. That completed changed my opinion and now have much greater respect for him. Unfortunately the media can be like a dog with a bone if they decide they don't like someone or don't want them to succeed. Thankfully Chris rose above their gutter.

Of greater interest is that Evans has been given the producer's role as well as fronting it. Didn't recognise the company who produced the TFI Friday revival last Friday, so not sure if he has a new one (now free of any lock out clauses from selling Ginger productions?)

The man is a very clever television producer - anyone old enough will remember how much buzz Don't Forget Your Toothbrush and TFI Friday generated (whatever your opinion on the content), as well as making breakfast TV popular.

Can't believe the BBC would give up any/much of their income from TG, but it looks as if Evans is in a very strong position. He also knows the previous presenters and producer so may know what direction to take TG Mk III to prevent too much overlap with whatever the others do next.

As noted by others, Evans is still deeply unpopular with sections of the press, as he has been very successful in the industry, and managed to bounce back after loosing it for a while... Think of the coverage when he was announced as the new breakfast DJ....

Good luck to him and I will approach TG III with an open mind and hopefully enjoy it.

He's a petrol head... pity he is also a bit of a cock!

Have to say I think Chris Evans is a good choice. Decent presenter and a well known petrol head. Question is now, who are they going to get to host the show with him?...

I think he's probably the best person for it. Reports today that he's confirmed one of his co-presenters will be female, so Jodie Kidd still looks possible. I reckon it'll be her and Guy Martin, he's made some good programmes on his own lately.

Guy Martin is awesome, but really not sure how well he'd work on a "regular" TV show.

Jodie Kidd ticks the box for being a massive petrolhead, again not convinced how well she'll fare at presenting!

Maybe after Plato was with Evans on tfi Friday last week maybe he will get one of the spots as he has not been on fifth gear this year plus a result as hopefully there will end up being two new car programmes instead of just a new top gear now so result all round and Chris Evans will do a top job on it....I hope

Chris Evans seems to be very pally with Jason Plato, so it's a definite possibility that he'll be involved in Top Gear. He often interviews Plato on the R2 breakfast show and I think Plato has been involved in Evans' car fest events too.

Personally I really like Chris Evans and think he'll do a fab job!

Wouldn't be surprised to see Plato, but I'd like to see Chris Harris - I do like his stuff.
I can't stand Jodie Kidd's presentation "style" - I still haven't watched most of The Classic Car Show, mainly because she was so wooden. Amanda Stretton?

As long as it's not Suzi Perry, that's fine with me. I dunno what it is, but I just can't watch her.

Would VBH leave 5th Gear? Would Natalie Pinkham leave Sky F1 in favour of a more UK-based job now she's had a baby?

I bet there are a few 'older' guys on here that like watching VBH squeaking behind the wheel on a regular basis... she isn't my choice as a presenter.

I wouldn't like Suzi Perry either, she is only on TV because it gives her the opportunity to look at herself after every show

looks like I might have to do it instead, I am as rubbish as James May with directions so might suit part of the team well

I actually thought Suzi Perry was pretty good when she used to do the Moto GP coverage.

I was a big fan of VBH back in the day, but using her to relaunch Top Gear after her time on Fifth Gear? Can't seeing that sending off the right signals personally.

If I were placing a bet on a female I still think Jodie Kidd is the most likely candidate (despite being awful on TV).

If you want a female that's funny and can drive then bring in Jennifer Saunders, reckon she'd be good for a laugh.

I recall a woman who drives for a Porsche works team or something along those lines who presented a show called 'I want that car' in itv. She wasn't a great presenter but can obviously drive a car.
