10W40 Semi synthetic, It's the grade that subaru use.

I use anything from Halfords to Castrol, Normally £15-£22 on the oil depending on whats on offer.
I don't get all anal like some do.
OK if you are tracking the car regular then spend about £30-£45 on good quality fully synth millers etc.....

I have done all my own oil changes and had car for 6 years and have only put fully synth in it once (Mobil Motorsport..no not the 0W40). took it out a week later as on cold start the tappets were ticking and went back to semi.

The most important partis to make sure you pre-fill the oil filter with oil before you screw it on.
It normally takes a few goes to fill it as is soaks down through the filter.
I normally do this while waiting for the old oil to drain.

DOT4 brake fluid will be fine, but DOT5 is better if you like a bit of heavy braking.
Make sure the car is level when you bleed, i.e don't jack one end right up in the air, or it can upset the bias valve.
Also make sure you keep topping up the resovoir (and don't get it on the paintwork).
