Thanks for posting the photos Tim, but indeed very sad news about the female on the sidecar losing her life. Heard about it last night - Claire's dad has been one of the marshal/bike noise testing team for years down there.

Not sure it was brake failure, information i've heard suggested the outfit lost control on the slow down, and veered off to the right hitting the fencing and a concrete bollard between the road and the volks tracks. Very sad news, hope the male (rider) pulls through.

Always next year

Apparently the fastest car was mid-10's, so your scoob would certainly be competitive. Don't think there were any scoobs down there this year

Its not a quarter of a mile run is it?

Its also not a prepped surface therefore its difficult to compare to elsewhere but most cars arent really built to start from a standstill. I would think my car would be pretty quick there or just sit there wheel spinning lol

Standing start 1/4. Mile, ordinary road so a bit uneven and council/gas/water repairs, it has been run since 1905 I think.

yes love the history of it and it is surprizing in this day and age of health and safetyitus its a breather of fresh air.. the accident and subsequent deaths is not at all good but everyone taking parts knows the risks and makes the choice..

not sure I would fancy hitting a council road repair at 140mph lol

Heard the engine let go big time. The frame was being welded up shortly before the meeting and the whole bike looked a mess. Sad

Engine let go over the finish line, dropped all it's oil over the rear, rider lost control, hit the fence and a concrete bollard.
This was not the sidecar that was being welded just before the start of the event.

What Steve ppp and Dukeboy said is what it seems happened. Read a few witness accounts that say the same rather than the reported 'couldn't stop at the end' theory being banded about in the press. Seen pictures of the bike on the back of a recovery truck ( daily mail website if interested) and bar a dent in the front wheel, it looks pretty unscathed which would make what I've heard make sense.

*Taken from speed trials facebook page from a family friend*.
The man is in an induced coma. He's broken both ankles, fractured his chest, spine and skull. They may bring him out of the coma tomorrow. As yet they are unsure as to what extent his head and spine have been damaged.

Hopefully he makes a full recovery.
