Default torque info/advice please..

What sort of torque could you expect to get from a uk sti engine?? have heard that these can handle up to 450bhp on the bottom ends as standard??is this correct or is it jdm stis?? but what extras would get you more torque from the standard engine or isnt there any..with out going 2.1, 2.35 etc...

Running 450bhp a newage STI will generally produce more torque than when its running 350 but it will not make as much torque as 2.1 at the same boost or a 2.35 / 2.5 etc etc they seem to make around 400/410 at 450 from looking at the majority of dyno charts.

There are plenty of UK 2.0 STI newages running circa 450 and quite a few JDM ones too,
There are 1 or 2 nutters pushing past 500 on standard internals.

thanking you all... im seriously contemplating putting together another engine for the p1 (im getting paranoid at how long this ones going to last with my heavy right one!) using a sti bottom end and could use some supporting mods i allready have, i would like to run a reliable 400/400 or more if it will make it..but torque is a must and not having put together a subaru engine before havnt really a clue where to start, also dont want to be spending to many thousands if i can help it...but it looks more likely that a 2.1 or larger is going to be the only real way to do it...

I got this sent from alyn via email so it might help you

like most things depends on your target and future goals??

road car wise then the 2.5 takes a lot of beating because of the torque it produces even in near std form and a 2.1 will only ever get anywhere near with a twin scroll kit and even then will still feel lacking......

i want to stay away from the 2.5 to be honest, will proberbly end up looking for a already built 2.1 or 2.35 block if one comes up, to save on the costs of putting it together myself and go from there if i do it..

on a std single scroll car then its unlikely you will ever get equal torque and bhp...........

properly modded 2.5's are no issue
