I belong to several online Art Groups.
I often get asked to share my techniques but rarely do so.
One particular person (a Canadian cop) kept on & on so I said I would teach her.

She had joined a well known website to learn to draw. 11 months and $700 to date. This site has 13,000 members.
When I agreed to teach her my method I asked her to send me what she classed as her best drawing to date,
She sent me this drawing of Angelina J that she drew in Nov 2013

After spending 4 months with her I recently asked her to draw Angelina J again.

Many artists wouldn't be interested in drawing themselves mate.
Me drawing me would be the last thing I would ever do.
In actual fact I would probably enjoy drawing some ugly old git more than doing a self portrait.
You want me to do you ??????

Some really interesting work here.

How long do you spend, roughly, on each?. I imagine there's reasonable variation, but I'm curious to get a sense.

My "skills" in this area are highly limited. My family has artists in it, but that part of the DNA seemed to skip me.

Thank you.
The average portrait is roughly 20 hours and this could be doubled for something like the above where roughly the same went into VR's race suit.

Cars take a little longer because the initial line drawing and setting out takes much time. As with portraits one tiny thing that is wrong will make the whole thing look wrong with finished.

I print the subject on A4 paper then use proportional dividers to increase the size and to be as accurate as I can for all works.

Never use any form of paint. All works are in pastel sticks/pencils.

All limited prints of 50 are sold at £50.00 each. Collectors buy the originals from £650 - £4K depending on size & input hours.

Absolutely insanely good. As someone who can't draw to save their life, I appreciate how talented you have to be to draw like this. Amazing!

Wow. 20 - 40 hours seems very little to a talentless goon like me!

That's the thing I find especially impressive, which partly motivated the question. Given long enough, I'm sure I could draw some passable things. I'm a great believer in practice, application and motivation getting you a long way.

However, it'd probably take me thousands of hours to get nowhere near your standards!

Do you ever do commissioned work?

Thanks guys.

No I haven't drawn my P1 ....... I done a sketch of it trying something out but not a proper bit of work.

Yes I do commissions but currently have 2 month waiting time as I alternate commissions with my own work.

Thanks Ian

Scotty yes I do use Polychromos but only for the very fine details. I only used them on two small bits on this drawing.

Conte - Gioconda & Carbothello are what I generally use which are all pastel pencils opposed to wax or oil based.
