Default Accident in France, slow progress.. Any advice?

Hi all!

I took my other (not so petrol consuming) car to France in the summer and got hit by a Frenchie driving on the wrong side of her own road! The car's a write-off..

Every EU insurer has to have a partner in each EU state which deals on their behalf, and the UK partner for her insurer is AFA. They've sent an 'engineer' (loss adjuster) round who's valued the car, but I think it's worth more and they haven't offered my anything at all yet. I'd like to investigate taking it to court as I can't see an end in sight otherwise..

My question is, does anyone have any experience of taking a foreign driver to court over an accident in France and therefore any good advice? The Motor Insurers Bureau website just says to consult legal advice in this situation, but that costs even more and I was hoping someone here may have some experience..

Much thanks as always!
Mike.

I reported it to Admiral (multi-car = cheap!) however after 4 months they'd got nowhere. It was looking that by the time of my Scooby's renewal in January, I'd have an open claim with them and my insurance would rocket, so I got them to close the claim and I'm dealing with the French myself!

valuations are easy to sort imho.

wife wrote a car off years ago.. first offer came through and I just printed out numerous Autotrader adverts for the same or similar car and wrote on them the differences - this car has higher miles, this car has sunroof ours didnt etc etc and wrote a letter saying due to the enclosed adverts I value the car at £XXX.
Received a cheque for the amount I said in the letter within a few weeks (nothing happens fast lol).
Just keep ringing and ask for offer then do the above.. sorted

Thanks guys, I'll give that a go. The engineer that came to assess it said to do pretty much the same thing.. He also said that he disregards the mileage as it can't be trusted! I bet he wouldn't disregard it if it said 200,000 miles, only if it says anything less than 90!
