I am SO in for this! Been wanting to get over there and watch some of the Irish tarmac series for a couple of years now: an SES road trip would be the kick up the arse I need to actually do it!

Killarney and Donegal are reckoned to be the Irish Rally events to go to, especially Donegal as that always attracts a big entry (which often includes a lot of World Rally Cars).

The Cork 20 (later in the year) is suppose to be good as well.

NB: Oh yeah, great video as well!

There are two tarmac Championships running in Ireland. The Irish Tarmac Rally Championship...

http://www.irishtarmac.com/rallies.cfm

...which is 6 rounds (Galway, Circuit of Ireland, Rally of the Lakes, Donegal, Ulster and Cork), and the Dunlop National Rally Championship...

http://www.nationalirishrallychampionship.com/

...which is 8 rounds this year (Birr, Mayo, Circuit of Kerry, Carlow, Munster, Tipperary, Clare and Donegal).

As I understand it the Dunlop National Rally Championship has a reasonable entry list (which is closer to the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship than it used to be), but the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship is still the pick of the bunch.

2012 Irish Tarmac Rally Championship Dates:

Galway - 4th & 5th Feb.
Circuit of Ireland - 6th & 7th April.
Rally of the Lakes - 4th, 5th & 6th May.
Donegal - 15th, 16th & 17th June.
Ulster - 17th & 18th August.
Cork - 6th & 7th October.

Obviously we've missed the Circuit of Ireland this year, but Donegal is still a couple of months away!

I like the sound of an SES trip to do that too

What would the rough cost be to get a car on a boat over there?

Ouch, thats pretty expensive. Guess its a fair old trot over the water to Dublin.

If i was going to do the trip, i'd take the diesel i think. 800 miles to a tank on the motorway

Sounds like a laugh tho
