Enforced Project
Due to this......
http://i356.photobucket.com/albums/o...1052010012.jpg Followed by this 2 days later! http://i356.photobucket.com/albums/o...1052010014.jpg I'm now starting my Engine rebuild project earlier than planned! I two main options in mind right now..... 2.1 Stroker either using my block or a CDB both with my heads Forged 2.5 with my heads Cost wise not a lot between them and already know of at least 2 forged 2.5 short engines second hand. Will keep you posted! |
any news on when the car will be back yet?
|
Modified 2.5's have been proven time and time again in the bugeyes, i'd go for that

I have a feeling you will be eeking in front soon with the power!:wedgie: |
Car is with the repatriation company in Germany now, will be back in a week or so.
Cosworth is definitely my currently preferred option but is a fair bit more than the 2.1, with a 2.1 I could probably get either a 6spd or the Scoobyclinic 5 spd kit fitted at the same time. If I go Cosworth I'll need to go easy until I can get the box sorted! |
What are you hoping to achieve with the re-build. What are your targets?
|
2.35.....

hows that a cheap option? |

Not that i'd know about that ! If he wants a a cheap option why is he looking at cosworth  Eureka's short engine would be a good buy with a bit of bartering |
how much power do you want from the build ?
|
Engine tuner and lots of other tuners have been running over 550 bhp on 2.5's for quite a while now.... All depends on what the car is going to be used for and power targets
|
Be diferent from the rest and go for a 2.45:whistle:
|
Good luck mate, on the the build and deciding on which route to go...
|
buy a track car?
|
Car's back Monday or Tuesday next week. As for spec I want an engine that will pull well across the rev range and be 500BHP capable but run in the region of 450/450 for daily use. Plan is to get the engine sorted ASAP but run with the current turbo, injectors and ecutek. Then it's a case of sorting the gearbox (6 or uprated 5 speed) and then I'll probably go FMIC, larger injectors and MD321T (or similar) possibly on Syvecs to get the 450/450 goal.
Currently looking at a forged 2.5 from Williams Motorsport to the following spec:
Eureka's engine is a good option but would involve having to get the heads sorted myself and also refitting the heads to the block plus the timing belts, jobs I'm not that confident with. Also Williams will be able to get the compression ratio right with the head gaskets if they have the block and heads to re-assemble as a unit. |
Why not get his block and get them to do the head work ?
|
Was thinking of going for his block and sending my heads to these guys http://www.cncheads.co.uk/subaru_impreza.html to get them fully sorted.
How much hassle is reassembling the heads to the block and refitting timing belt etc? |
not much
otherwise happy to sell mine as a long block |
put post on other thread re my engine
does come with belt tensioners ect another 1200quid for the above seems excessive when all you need to do with mine is bolt the heads on and mine comes with all the above apart from rcm 12mm oil pump and far better parts steve |

Just ordered my engine!!!
Should be a couple of weeks to build, just got to get mine out and ready for collection! Then I'll be onto JGM for the Syvecs!! |
cool
engine hoist in the garge if you need it Would go with low silicone Mahle pistons if it was me , high silicone ones only good for 450bhp ish over that people have had problems . Also if Mahle are good enuff for Ferrai there good anuff for me . Only thing with the low silicone is there very forge sound till up to temp but then are good for 1000bhp !!!!!! have you gone for JDM heads as they seem to be better castings ? Also if you want Syvecs get it ordered |
It'll be a while before I can get the mapping done so I'll be in touch with Simon once my engine is out of the car and enroute to Williams.
Andy is suppling the heads for me from an engine he's just had in, basically I lucked out as he has most of the parts in stock at pre, exchange rate increase prices and just got a vgc STi engine in with AVCS heads and already has a 2.5 block stripped and cleaned! (the heads I'm getting for less than Saj's prices!) Will your hoist fit in the boot of the wagon? Plus any tips on either cleaning out my turbo or a local place that will 'refurbish' it to get the contaminated oil out? |
yep with the seats down
|
Finally got the car into my garage, big thanks to Barnham Trailer hire for the very reasonable price to hire the car trailer!! Will start posting pics as I take the inlet side off the engine and then will be begging for favours when it's time to lift the engine!!

Spent about an hour on her tonight, Got the Intercooler, header tank, washer bottle and air box off. Started undoing the wiring harness and vac lines etc. ready to pull the inlet off tomorrow. Taken lots of pics and made lots of notes but all going pretty well so far as the inlet was only off last year so I'm pretty happy with it so far, any ideas what to do with the alternator, A/C pump and PAS pump?

Look good James, I've already got mine in the build process though - the base build should be ready by the middle of next week then once my engine is with him should only be a further week until I have it back!
Any help more than welcome, I should have the inlet off by the weekend - then I'm working blind!! Not sure when I'm going to go for the engine removal though as I'm pretty busy at the weekends at the moment possibly not until July now, not sure it's an evening job! |
You may want to leave the inlet manifold on till the engines out or you may find that you have nothing to fix the hoist too !
|
good luck
good luck on building your new engine mate
|
Plea for help time!!
When's good for me to come up and borrow your hoist Chris and is anybody free any evening next week to help get the engine out?? I'm solid the next two weekends and need the engine out ASAP! |
Ive got next week off Nick, so any evening next week is fine with me to come down.
|
what evening you thinking Nick/Nick? :)
