Driving off boost?

Just wondered if I was alone with this. Each time I fill up I think 'righy im going to drive off boost so I can see what mpg I can get' but it never works...

Best ive held out for is half a day. Whats your longest? These evil temptresses!! :waiting:

Anger 13-06-2013 08:44 AM

About 15 minutes... While the car warms up ;)

RCS2810 13-06-2013 08:49 AM

Haha. Yeah my right foot becomes quite heavy and tired after a bit in the car.

GB270Adam 13-06-2013 08:51 AM

I try my best on dual carriageways/motorways plod along at 60mph, although normally give it a bit of stick on the slip road joining said roads.

RCS2810 13-06-2013 08:56 AM

Yeah I've got dual carriageways everywhere :(. I find takinh twisty roads worse though, I just cant resist.

:agreed:

I stay off boost in traffic jams!

Lucky 13-06-2013 09:23 AM

Ha Ha, I often do that but rarely get about 5 miles down the road

Steve_PPP 13-06-2013 10:18 AM

I don't plod about trying to get high mpg in the scoob, too much like hard work! In the diesel though, economy mission every day on the commute :)

bazza397 13-06-2013 12:16 PM

i got mine for the boost love it dont really pay attention to mpg :drive:

RCS2810 13-06-2013 12:24 PM

I had a Mazda RX8 231bhp and I must say the scooby is MUCH better on fuel than the RX8 and surprisingly has much much less rust than the RX8 even though the 8 was 2005 and the scoob is 1995...

Scott.T 13-06-2013 12:29 PM

"E" struggles to keep it off boost on his drive-way

RCS2810 13-06-2013 12:44 PM

Hahaha

kartingsteve 13-06-2013 01:57 PM

Never going to happen in a scooby but I can just about on a m/way cruising about 80/85 :D

Anger 13-06-2013 03:05 PM

Problem with the Evo is that it's on boost from just over 2000rpm... Very hard to keep off boost apart from motorway driving

Funny you say that, a friend of mine has an RX8 and its fuel consumption is shocking. Nice car but makes the scoob look economical!.

They are a nice shape, gorgeous inside but powerwise compared to a scooby is nothing. Handles well but the engines are very fragile. You cant even switch them off cold without it flooding.

Im breaking mine so if he needs any parts ;)

Ha Ha I'm exactly the same.

Ginola 13-06-2013 07:11 PM

The Rx-7 and 8 are Rotary "****le" engines and are known to be completely crap for fuel economy the best you could expect from the old Rx-7 was about 13mpg which was a shame because it was absolutely brilliant to drive, they where also known to drink around a litre of oil every thousand miles!
Not driven an 8, felt quite depressed when Mazda bought it out minus the turbo from previous models.

In the old classic wagon 333/329 I managed 347 miles on a tank, (crawled 140 on A roads and the rest on the M4) , I think I overtook like 2 cars on the A roads.. that was off boast with luggage and just me in the car.. driving spirited I managed to empty a tank in less than 140 miles :D

I don't even try in the blob its just not worth it.. as Anger says.. off boost till its warm :)

Think my average is around 210 a tank.

edit.. Please forum mods " w a n k l e" is not a swear word :P

I do try to keep off the boost to get more mpg but on a dual carriage way or on the bypass that is near me it is so hard not to just boot it or when you get boy racers in their little 1 or 1.4 liter's trying to race you so I play with them for a while letting them get in front of me then boot it and leave them for dead while looking in my rear view mirror at them disappearing pmsl lol or when people sit on my bumper I tend to boot it while saying to myself

Pretty sure every RX8 owners who's had to pay for a rebuild and the fuel costs thinks it is!

jonnyricer5 14-06-2013 07:11 PM

In the type r with high ratio s means i have to pootle to keep off boost and who wants to see
a scoob pootle!!

Mortster 14-06-2013 07:43 PM

I was averaging 350 miles to each tank on my Mountain trip, with a fully loaded car, and not really worrying about how heavy my foot was. :-D

350!? Take a different car? ;)

I took the scoob to work today to give it a run, not driven it since parking up from Germany! Got it out the garage and then realised i'd be late for work as i needed fuel - last time it got filled up before today was in Belgium :)

Mortster 14-06-2013 10:44 PM

I found a few shells in Switzerland doing V-power nitro with 100 ron, rather than our 99.

The toll motorways in France had 99 too, petrol didn't seem to be as much of a ball ache as I thought it would be.
