Othr things you can do when we get there
1. A trip to Cochem is a must. A gorgeous town 40 mins from the ring, situated on the river Mosel it has a very pretty castle, cable car to viewing points plus river trips and tourist style shops. The Mosel valley is a large wine producer so take advantage while you're there. A popular place to visit and well recommended 2. Wildlife park near the town of Daun. Drive through the Wild boar, deer etc and have the oppurtunity to feed them. After the drive take the walk through the monkey enclosure where the monkeys run free around you. Lastly the bird of prey show. Watch Owls, hawks and eagles do their stuff swooping low over your head. A must for the family http://www.wildpark-daun.de/ 3. Rodelbahn near Daun. Right next door to the wildlife park is a tobogan run for kids and big kids alike. Winding down a steep steel run on little more than a tea tray with a brake is excellent fun for everyone. You will be getting competitve by the end of the first couple of runs I guarranty 4. Phantasialand German theme park for all the family http://www.phantasialand.de/9937/phanta ... tions.html 5. Eifel park http://www.eifelpark.de/en/ Wildlife park along the same lines as number 2 on this list. 6. Altenahr - small town on the road towards Cologne. Cheap chairlift to a lovely viewing point. 15 mins from Adenau 7. Rodelbahn - Another Tobogan run with a few animals for the kids to feed. Carry on past Altenaur for around ten mins and its on your left hand side. Video http://www.northloop.co.uk/videos_other.htm 8. Nurbugring castle - For those too lazy to drive anywhere take the steps to the castle which overlooks the surrounding area. Excellent views. 9. Burg Satzvey - castle near the pretty village of Kommern around 40 mins from the ring. Often events going on where you can try your arm at archery, watch fire eaters, watch josting, birds of prey etc etc. Very much recomended. http://www.burgsatzvey.de/eng_index.html 10. If you want to spend money then Koblenz is the place. Most of the town centre is pretty poor but look for the indoor shopping area over the other side of the road from the Subway sandwich shop. Plenty of designer shops to break the credit card. |

The venue will be a pub on the outskirts of T/wells on the North farm industrial estate, which is just off the roundabout on the A21 at the beginning/end of the Pembury By-pass. ps. I dont know the name of the pub Crowman and Worzel do, I am sure they will tell us soon.

I have spoken to morris insurance for a track quote to cover me on the 30th/31st of may on the ring. They came back to me with a figure of £275 for the two days with a £1000 excess.
I think this is pretty good and i know Mr Big E gave me some good advice on changing to Norwich union to save money as his is included in his insurance with them im not sure if i would gain by changing or could honestly be bothered with the hastle and paper work! (sorry Big E).

Hi all, noticed this thread and started reading, got to page 6 and noticed a lot of incorrect informations and hear say about the Nordschleife.
I'm an English Impreza owner that's working at the Nurburgring so thought I would do a brief post. Forgive me for not reading 24 pages, I got to page 6 before deciding to contribute. Insurance: 99% will not cover the Nordschleife. You need a minimum of 3rd party cover to drive during Touristenfahrten. Sometimes the insurance company will pay out for 3rd party damage but seek to recover their losses from you personally. There are companies out there but it's not easy finding them as people don't like to share it. Crashing: Expensive. Armco (including removal, posts, new armco, labour, admin fees) is approx. €100 per metre. Most bills are 4 figures. Recovery is €200 from the track to local garage, storage is charged per day and not cheap. The only company that recovers you FOC is the German company ADAC, European membership so you're covered in the UK too is about £70. Track closure is €1500 per hour. 2009 prices: 1 - €22 4 - €75 8 - €145 15 - €250 25 - €390 JK - €1075 I'll hopefully see you out here. Mark |

Nurburgring GmbH are bringing out a new payment system this year. It's a pre-pay card you can top up with credit to buy your laps and pay for other products and services like food and drink. I'm not 100% yet if it's replacing the old paper card lap tickets although new barriers have been installed.

That's a good idea.
We had a meeting last night to talk over things for the Ring trip. It was one of the questions I asked (not been before) as to whether you could pre-order lap tickets. And if so was there any kind of saving to be had. |

The main entrance to the Nordschleife had both LHD and RHD ticket barriers. If you're got a LHD car or a passenger you can join the track at the Breidscheid entrance in Adenau as that ticket barrier is for LHD vehicles. |

Let's just hope nobody crash's or gets crashed into as 99% may not be coverd. |

E40 from Dunkerque all the way to Liege whilst negociating the Brussels ring road (pain the in bum and confusing). From Liege join the E42 following signs for Verviers then Spa-Francorchamps. The E42 takes you into Germany. From there follow signs for Prum then Gerolstein. The Nurburgring is signposted from Gerolstein. So essentially it's: E40>E42>Prum>Gerolstein>Nurburg. Probably the easiest route for those staying with Jackie as coming out of Kelberg, turn right and head to the hotel to check in and dump your bags then back down the hill to Nurburg. It's a 15-20 minute drive from the Wilhelmshohe to Nurburg. Watch your speed, I was fined €175 for speeding in Belgium and was very close to being banned on the spot. |

On Saturday 30th May, there is an evening track walk if anyone would like to come along. These walks were initially for drivers racing on the Nordschleife however they are now available to the public. When the track shuts at 7:30pm you are taken round to the key sections via mini-bus, you get out and walk these sections with Nordschleife instructors. They talk you through the sections, show you the camber/elevations/surface changes offer advice on how to drive the Nordschleife safely etc. It's 90 minutes, from 7:30-9pm and costs €49. It's sets up nicely for the full day of Touristenfahrten driving on the Sunday. If you like the sounds of this I can sort it all out for you. Maybe even book you a table at the PistenKlause for afterwards for a well earned beer and steak on a stone.
I did one last year, a couple of photos... |

I was asked these question earlier and thought I share the answers with you all...
Are helmets required? No. But I always wear one as do most people I know who are driving quickly. My attitude to wearing a helmet was cemented when I was one of the first on the scene to an accident involving a driver who didn't wear one, 'luckily' the injuries was superficial and he was fine in the end after a few stitches. Hospitals nearby? Yes, there's one in Adenau plus bigger ones in Mayen, Koblenz, Cologne, Bonn. The track is very well catered for in case of accidents and emergencies during races. To give you an idea, last year 3 air ambulances landed within 10 minutes of each other on the track, that wouldn't happen in many other villages let alone cities in England. Kerbs on track? Some kerbs you can ride, others avoid. It's easy to tell which. Tyres? RE070's are my tyre of choice so far. I find that the stronger sidewalls allow me to corner faster i.e. 140mph through the Fuchsrohle if I'm on a quick lap. Tyre life is good too. R888's, I struggled with the correct track pressures in these. One of the guys from TimeAttack told me his pressures recently so I'll try them next time I get a set. Obviously these tyres have a high rate of wear. I destroyed a set of 4 in one week last summer. Brakes? Noobs have a habit of cooking brakes due to lack of circuit knowledge. They go flat out then brake as they are unsure of what corner is next. Start slow and build your speed up. Last year I had the owner of a 500bhp Evo running semi slicks come over to me in the car park asking what I had done to my car as he couldn't keep up... my car was completely standard at the time Excuse the quality of the video but the guy driving the MX5 gives you an idea of how little braking is needed if you know the track. http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?doc ... 4832353167 Showing off at Bergwerk |

All this serious talk is depressing so to lighten the mood...
Applicable for all drivers only people's speeds through here differ greatly depending on size of balls. The fast drivers are taking the compression >150mph. |

You've got 12.9 miles of constant corners, elevations, cambers and surfaces chances to remember. 8 laps will give you a good idea of the track and you can always buy more if you want. |

I bet it takes at least that too!
Those first 4 or so laps I mentioned, it would be best to stay completely or as much as possible off the of racing line. Unless theres nobody about of course (yeah right )

Drive it you would a track but keep an eye on your mirrors as people have a habit of teleporting into your rear mirrors. Don't panic and make sudden moves, indicate and move to the right to let them past in a safe section. The track is open 17:15-19:30 the friday evening you arrive. Pop in to the office and if I'm not busy I can give those that want it a lap in my Impreza and show them around the track. |

I don't like taking rear passengers on track so it will only be my passenger seat available I'm afraid. Following me round is fine, it's a technique our instructors use.
So my passenger seat for the first 2 laps on Friday have been reserved already |
