There was a huge thread on scoobynet about this a few months back.
Most suppliers (well known performance traders in the scooby scene) said the blue ones were fine. But a lot of people said they disliked the cheapness of them. General outcome was that they are cheap, but they are sufficient to do the job. I'd personally consider something different though, other brands aren't exactly expensive and better built.... |

IMO, so long as you are following regular servicing schedules the new filters will be fine
![]() They are a cheaper alternative but will meet the necessary requirements..... |

the 'black' ones have been discontinued for about 2yrs now!! the 'blue' version is supplied & used by Subaru worldwide now..........
we have supplied/fitted hundreds if not thouasands of the 'blue' version and never had one issue but after certain "internet hype" we looked into things in more detail and from the info garnered it would appear to be a recycling issue which is the reason behind the change in construction.......we also carried out a straw pole of other tuners/specialists and most also used these including RCM without issue as for the American BigMac reject opening one in his car and claiming its unsupported, etc. then of course it is as its not designed to be a free standing element.........most modern cars/motorcycles use a paper element these days also

never heard anyhting bad about them, I'm personally using the pink sti filter cost a fortune and probably is exactly the same as the blue ones.

No its not, i cut my old pink sti filter open and the way it is designed/reinforced/cage'd and the sheer quality of it is of an exceptionally high standard. All the other filters are monkeys poo compared to the sti one, you definately get what you pay for.

John Felsteads, Stews and mine all leaked and spat the gaskets out... Call it hype if you want, but i wont be using one again... RX8 ones are the same as the black ones and cheaper
