I feel that you need to read this to prevent it from happening to you.
All insurance policies may differ but in my case the insurances for my work vans are paid via direct debit over 12 months. At the end of each yearly period we normally receive a letter asking if we wish to continue and the direct debits simply continue. One of my gangs were pulled over this morning as a police vehicle with a rotating camera stopped them saying that no insurance was found in their system. I checked it out and to my horror all insurances had stopped on 5th June 2011. I phoned the insurance company (More Than) and they informed me that a letter had been sent asking if we wanted to continue with the policy to which we have always replied yes. We have no recollection of any letter and we are certainly not in a habit of throwing unopened envelopes in the bin, so I dont know what happened? I now have a BIG problem. The driver had been arrested (who just so happens to be my Son. The gang were not allowed to drive to the job and the van was collected and towed off to be stored. The job they were meant to do today was to prepare works for a civil engineering gang attending tomorrow. I now have to pay 3 wages for the guys that have achieved nothing. £ 375.00 The civil engineering gang have charged me £ 1,300.00 as they have nothing to do tomorrow. £ 150.00 to release the van. My 20 yr old Son will now have to declare 6 points and I will now have to pay the additional payments for him as he currently pays monthly and by law we must notify his insurers of todays events. I phoned Gary of Keith Michael's Insurance who kindly arranged to renew the policy on the vans as I have washed my hands with the other lot. ...... Thanks mate, if you are reading this. I haven't bothered to write down 80% of all the crap I've experienced today as this post would have become a friggin book. It may look bad on my part for not checking but when policies are carried over into another year why should I need to check that the vehicles are still insured.? The Police told me this morning that they experience this virtually daily. ONE FOOKING PHONE CALL from More Than would have prevented all the bollox I have had from 9.15 this morning until now (2.30). Today I nearly threw the towel in. Is it all worth it? Maybe I will live longer packing all this up and getting a normal life with a normal job as a fooking green grocer or something. |

Some companies do that as we have experienced that before. In the past others send a letter assuming that unless they hear from you things will stay as they are. |

Glad Pat and me were able to help Clive.
I still think it was shocking that the Police gave him points. |

My wife had this exact same problem about 2 years ago. But with a better outcome.
Laura was out shopping (like chicks do ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In total shock, Laura called me at home. Luckily I am a bit anal and I keep everything, including the letter that they sent out 3 months before saying "If you wish to continue your insurance, you need do nothing, as we will automatically insure you vehicle". I went over to try and get the car moving, thinking it would just be a flat battery, when it wasn't I got on the phone and threw a shed load of ****s into the poor sod who answered ( I did apologise before I started as it's never the poor tele-sales bods fault) and told them exactly what I thought about Direct Line and their pile of **** service. Anyhow, with a lot of bowing and scraping they got someone out to collect the car and get it home. The following day I got back onto the phone and got to a higher level and let him have it right between the eyes. We ended up getting £200.00 in compensation and 1/2 price insurance for the year. And at the end of that year we moved everything away from them, cars, house and content, travel. The whole kit and kaboodle! Without blowing smoke up his Jacksie, this is why I would never want to deal with anyone other than Moley, I always talk directly with him at renewal time (when I can get through ![]() ![]() ![]() Apart from him, they are all bastards ![]() |

I've had many bad dealings with insurances and don't like to rip the ar5e out of the facts as Gary is involved in the same game and it may make him feel uneasy in our clubs, but the laws really need to change regarding certain issues.
By the way Gary you now have our vans on a long term policy with you ![]() You are the ONLY guy I have dealt with in the game that one can trust and sort issues out, plus being one of the only guys that could find someone mad enough to insure my P1 for the street ![]() |

Sorry to hear this Clive.May be the UK should adopt the system we have in France.Your insurance company sends you a small 3cm disc with date of insurance, reg no and name of ins company. If you don't have a valid disc displayed on your windscreen your not insured,so everyone knows exactly what's correct.

Happened to Dad a few years ago, luckily he got away with it! For the past god knows how many years he's just let the direct debit go out happy in the knowledge he's insured and as he's old even if they do charge more it's still cheap!!!!
Anyway he phoned his company to add my brother to the insurance for a week. At this point they informed him he hadn't had insurance with them for the past 6 months! They had changed the policy number or something stupid which meant the direct debits didn't carry over. We all laughed it off as being 6months free insurance but it really could have been a lot worse. Can't believe he didn't get done by ANPR!
