Hi Mate
Yes you top it up down the dipstick hole. Just hold your thumb over the end of the tube on the gearbox oil bottle, line it up with dipstick hole, then quick remove of thumb. Do not over fill the gearbox, theres plenty of posts on the correct level and potential damage from overfilling. Hope this helps. |

Thanks Crowman, much appreciated. Although i'm having trouble finding the posts you're talking about. I think i might just wait for the weekend and drain the whole thing and refill it. I've bot a clonky noise which is coming from the diff. Am hoping this will help

not sure what posts your reading Crowman but generally speaking we always ran EXTRA oil in the classic gearboxes to try and alleviate potential problems not cause them.......most commonly in competing vehicles

maybe its one of those i/net chinese whispers that has been turned around (wouldn't be the first time!!)
maybe someone has transposed it from helping by over-filling to not???? the box is "splash fed" simply by the gears rotating so the only thing it does by over-filling (by approx 0.5ltr) is ensuring that all of the gears/shafts are submerged

Always thought too much oil caused heat damage problems? Something to do with heat build up, due to the extra drag (loss of BHP through the box)
