Well I believe some of you may have already seen the car as it has been sitting and looking a little sorry for itself with one of the authorised traders.
I hear that the reactions have been rather ![]() It has taken me a little while to get round to doing this for a number of reasons. One, I have not had the heart and two, I wanted to sort out the insuance issues first and lastly make some tough decisions. I will paint a little picture first I had just taken my 6 week old son to meet his great Grandmother for the first time with my wife and parents also in the car. It was late afternoon on Sunday travelling back on the M3 Northbound. I had just moved over to the third land to overtake a car in the middle lane when for no apparent reason his car swerved violently left crossing lane 1 where it then hit the barrier and it came back across lanes 1, 2 when it hit my car head on to the nearside rear. All this happening in a flash at 70mph. It caused my car to hit the central reservation on the front right which then spun us across all the lanes of the M3 before luckily a grass verge stopped the car. Miraculosly we all walked away fairly unscathed. More importantly my 6 week old son was okay seeing as the door that was hit was where he was sat in his car seat secured to an Isofix base. He had actually slept through the whole accident and was only woken when we got him out of his car seat in a panic to check he was okay!! I have to give a massive praise to the way the car held up to the impact and ultimately ensured the protection of my family and that of my parents. The most important thing is that we are all still here and can move on. The car as much as I love it can be replaced eventually. It has been deemed a category C total loss. I have managed to keep the car as part of the settlement and have made the long hard decision to break the car rather than repair it because it will never be the same. All parts will be available but before the usual vulturing starts give me a couple of days to sort a list out. Some pictures - ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Lastly you cannot get rid of me that easily, the replacement for the forseeable future!! ![]() Last edited by Joel; 11-12-2012 at 07:00 PM. Sorry to hear of the accident Joel, but glad you and your family are ok. Must have been very scary to be hit at that speed on the motorway. They are good strong cars though, for sure.
Hopefully you can make some good money back on breaking the car, which shouldn't be too difficult being an STI with the 6 spd. |

Thanks again for the kind words..
I will add as I had forgot to put that the other car lost control due to an offside rear blowout. He was an elderly driver (86) and will not be prosecuted as it was just a freak accident. The police said at the time his car was immaculate and how you expect an elderly persons car to be. |
