Anyone familiar with this bigeye Sti in Margate?

Over 3k reserve not met? I personally wouldn't pay that much for a 2002 (not keen on the front lights being a bugeye), even if it is an sti. But its up to you. Go have a good look around it, someones description can be very different to the truth. I think theres better out there.
He may want 4k reserve which from what I've seen on some of your posts you have more to spend than what you say so for 5-6k you could get a very nice classic, nice bug wrx in good condition or an average bug sti. Last edited by RCS2810; 17-07-2013 at 10:38 PM.

 Looks tidy that, be interesting to see what it'll go for. Won't cost much to sort the paint on the scoop and reasonable mileage for an 11 year old car.... edit/ just seen there was two threads so i've merged them

Its a Prodrive STI though, with the correct front bumper, I say price is about right.
Loos nice, only thing I never understand is the carpet? Didn't STI's come with a Blue one? Or was that later?

I would say £4.5-5k would still be a good purchase price, if thats the car your after?

Looks good though and worth a visit with some cash in your pocket  Start face to face offer at £3.8k if bids have not raised on eBay, if its not accepted, bid the same price on ebay via your phone whilst there, to see if it goes past the reserve!! do this for every offer, should get it for his lowest price then good luck with it, does look nice and decent bug sti's are a bit thin on the ground.

Sorry don't quite understand what you mean by 'do this for every offer, should get it for his lowest price' ? Do you mean if he doesn't accept 3.8k, bid up on the phone in front of him? Am I being thick?  Il let you know how I get on if he ever calls me back to arrange a time!

Think you'll find that's exactly what Ron means mate, as soon as you what the reserve price is, that's what the bloke will take for it, anything higher than that is just a bonus for him, make sure you see/hear it starting from cold.

Yep
 make him a good starting offer over what the current bid is on eBay.... I'd say you'd be happy (if the car is genuine) to start at £3.8k. If he says no to the offer! place the same bid on eBay (assuming you can from a mobile device) If the bid lifts his "reserve not met" then you know that he would be willing to let it go for that amount......start waving the cash in his face and be prepared to walk away If the bid still comes up as "reserve not met" then you can increase your offer to him accordingly......say £200+ do the same as before for each offer you make him...... you should be able to find his lowest selling price and hopefuly get yourself a good deal. Remember to push the "no guarantee that the car will sell on eBay" or "that the winning bidder will have it" If he's upfront and tells you his 'lowest' 'best' price, you can check it by placing a lower bid on eBay........ Good luck with the viewing, often overlooked the bugeye's but theres some stunning examples out there to be had........and we all know a couple of excellent examples with SES

Well viewing didn't go very well. There was a stamped service history but no documentation supporting it. The chap had only had it a few months and said it was too big so he was selling. I took my torch with me and had a look under the drivers side front wheel and what I assume is the chassis/subframe ( box section metal) had rusted through badly. I was asking the chap about the cambelt and he didn't seem to know much about it. So my next inspection was the engine bay. Unsure which belt it was (cam or auxiliary ) had perished badly and had a big tear and gauge in it! Was quite lucky the belt stopped where it was so I could see the damage. Also the belt was perished through age. To be fair I don't think the seller knew and seemed pretty peed of as he bought it of his friend whose a mechanic at sva imports. Apparently he was assured the cam belt was ok! So I decided to call an end to it there and wished him all the best. Nice bloke but the car wasn't what I was expecting, tbh I was quite disappointed as had a good feeling about it. Btw he told me his reserve price and it was £5200. Never mind the search continues. So is corrosion a major issue on the subarus? Am I wrong to expect supporting documentation supporting services?

It might have been the U Frame. You don't really need it, it was added to make the care to pass crash tests or something. A few run without them anyway, as they weigh a ton...and rust.

Usually if it has a service book which is being stamped you shouldn't get any supporting documentation as that is what the stamp book is for. Obviously if he had extra work done at a garage you should expect to have receipts.
As with corrosion I dont know to be honest. I just know once rust starts its very hard and expensive to repair. The belt you probably saw would of been the aux belt(s) and not the cambelt. Just because the aux belt is in bad condition doesnt always mean the cambelt will be the same, a lot of people just change cambelt without anything else. Usually you should change a cambelt kit either every 5 years or 60k miles whichever comes first. Aux belt is cheap and easy to do. All in all sounds like you made the right choice. I'd always have a suspicion of someone selling a car who hasn't had it for long without a good reason... Last edited by RCS2810; 18-07-2013 at 08:56 PM.

Ive found that if the person is into cars they will keep every little receipt they ever get. Someone who doesnt care wont and will misplace them. The more bits of paper you keep the better and easier it will be to sell. Even if you do work yourself still keep receipts of the parts.
It depends if it has aircon or not, if it does it should have two belts at the front. Cant remember exactly but the left belt should run alternator and power steering pump (not sure on the power steering pump) and the right one should do aircon. The cambelt will be found behind them under the black covers..

I stick up a photo tomorrow, changed my mine as it was rusting, but I kept it, behind the stables somewhere. I'll hack it out of the nettles.

Yes, its a considered purchase at the price compaired to a flooded market but you do honestly get what you pay for IMO..... Good luck with the search
