iv not checked for a spark....as the old ones were working...I cant get my head around what would change....the leads have a black plug for the coilpack toward front of car and a white plug towards back of car perside its spun me out...cars stuck at work..and I cant think what would do this...

100% nothing like fuel cut... Induction is clean. thing is I was getting a flat spot that started to get worst under boost around 3500rpm 4000rpm Changed plugs and noticed 2x coilpacks had cracks and signs of melting...so clearly that was my problem now on coilpacks with no cracks plus I taped them under rubber boot..and the car is worst...missing on and off you can feel the spark come and go almost... also smell of fuel??

Aren't the MAFs on classics quite fragile? Cleaning it can goose it I thought.

This should only be a temporary fix to help packs with cracks.
It's quite common for the pre-facelift to suffer spark issues after changing plug's because the weakened packs get damaged further when re-fitted. And many don't know that there are cracks under the rubber boots. Coilpacks were one of the reasons I stopped doing the chips. People were quite happy to pay £150-£200 for a chip/ECU upgrade, but were not too happy when they also found they had to pay £250 for a set of coilpacks. I only ever had 1 guy send the chip back for a refund, I reckon because he couldn't afford to sort the coilpacks. As the cars got older this became more and more a problem. I must have hundreds of emails trying to convince people it was their coilpacks and not the chip causing the problems. When they eventually swapped to new coilpacks they were eating humble pie.........the big problem was that before the chip they ran fine, but the extra boost provided by the chip would blow the weak spark out. |
