Default Chief Consable calls for zero tolerance on speeding

A leading police officer,Antony Bangham, has called for zero tolerance on speeding and an end to the 10% buffer. Surely this would cause more accidents, motorists constantly wathing their speedo.I can judge my speed at roughly 30mph, but to be exactly 30mph or just under would be difficult.'No idea how much is raised by speeding fines, but it would soar under zero tolerance.

maybe they need to ensure the technology in speedo's, etc is actually accurate before trying to enforce such nonsense.............

if they spent more time to educate drivers in basics like Lane Discipline, etc. then this would have a far greater effect on road safety but its not really about that is it...........

What a joke.

Speedos aren't GPS accurate, plus a small change in tyre/wheel diameter would throw the speedo out as well. The motorist is an easy target for more cash... as above, go after proper criminals.

Agreed 100%. I've seen so many middle lane hogs on the motorways without a clue in the world, then take offence and try and cut off people who go to undertake as they can't get past... much more likely to cause an accident than a few mph over the limit!

For context, before you all waste too much time worrying about it, apparently the original source of the “story” was the Daily Mail:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...-speeding.html

So the Press Association said: https://www.google.co.uk/amp/www.dai...eed-limit.html

The Wail need outrage stories to fill their pages, as they can’t use their usual house price scare stories, which are to be avoided during Brexit for obvious reasons....

Good points. Even if this story is nonsense, your second point in particular is worthy of serious consideration

Definitely used to raise money.Difficult to get info on the exact amounts, but millions for sure. None of it spent on road safety.

Was about to comment, but then I saw urabusMY94 pointing out the original stories connection to the Daily Mail, so I'm now certain the whole thing is inflammatory bull****!

This is really harsh considering speedos in cars aren't calibrated. What reads 29 in my car, might read 31 in someone else's car. It's ridiculous.

Like already said, they're going after easy fines as the police fail at actually catching real criminals.
