We're planning on doing noise testing at the Pease Pottage meet, just waiting for Crowman to confirm he can attend with the db meter

You're quite right mate... 1-1 I'd managed to get it into my head it had changed to 105! Which leads on to me saying 'b#####ks' 105db was gonna be pushing it a bit, can't see me getting in under 102db even with the bung!

Right, Crowman (Martyn) has confirmed he can make it to the Sussex meet at Pease Pottage with a calibrated db meter - we can therefore do noise testing if anyone wants to know how loud their car is before booking a session at Brands.

If you've got a bung, bring that too so we can see how loud you are both with and without if necessary

The Sussex meet is at Pease Pottage service station, 12pm Sunday 4th April

I know its Easter Sunday but I hope you can all make it If people fancy it, most people normally head over to the Flight Tavern pub for lunch at 1pm.

Don't think so - its dependent on Crowman getting the db meter from his work. I'm sure if it is possible, he'll let you know.

My Exhaust has FAILED !!!!

I have a Vortex Afterburner on a 2.5" system and it was reading 112db @ 4650 rpm.

So I would recommend those going to Brands need to get them checked on Sunday at PP.

Looks like my Prodrive back box is going back on.

Guys
We just checked Rich(Dukeboys) Which is 107db
My M3 is 99db on standard system.

Duncans classic uk with prodrive system was 103db

I still think everyone should not get to anal about it,So long as your car is within 3 to 5 db of the allowable limit you should be ok.

One more thing, the db meters from maplin,RS etc are all perfectly ok but only once calibrated, we use sound level meters for acoustic surveys at work and have had off the shelf meters read as much as 9db out compared to a calibrated meter.

I am going to try to get to Pease Pottage on Sunday so you can use mine to check how accurate the db tester is (mine was tested at Brands and was 88bd)

I agree 100% about not being too anal.

I can't see anyone being turned away enless they are massively over the limit

Granby
Yes half meter 45deg static test at 75% rpm

Moley
88db is very low, ambient noise in an underground station ticket office is between 75 and 80db, sad i know but we install PA/VA systems on LUL.
We have recently been installing the classical music background music you may of heard on the Northern line, This has to be set at 5db above ambient which is around 80db, dependant on size of station and its acoustic construction, just trying to give people an idea of what 80db is in reality, which is in a nutshell not very loud at all

The meter i have is not all singing and dancing, and does not need to be, the important thing is its calibrated to a 94db sound generator.

Would be interesting to test yours for sure.

http://www.javelintrackdays.co.uk/tr...id=5&Itemid=22

P.S

Will only be there for about an hour max guys

Blimey, that sounds loud Especially as the static test at Brands is 75% of the redline, which is 5250rpm (assuming 7k redline on scoobs).

Mine was 101db at 5250rpm when tested at Goodwood, so would be good to compare as well.

That was 101 with the new Tornado 2 backbox, would expect my Prodrive backbox to be under 100

Guys another thing is when you get tested at a track day they nearly always wander up and point the meter at the rear of car and thats it, when we tested at half a meter it was so surprising just how close that is.
I will bring the meter with cal cert to brands just to prove a point if anyone gets pulled.
Wonder if they get theres calibrated every year!
Also if your in a queue of cars and tested the db level will be considerably diferent to a test taken with no solid objects near by.
Is a shame i didnt grab our 94db signal generator to confirm the acuracy of the meter, but its cal is in date so should be fine.
I know i have been to track days at brands where evo's have been loud to say the least and they spent all day out there!

bump, reminder that if you want to come to Brands, you can get your car noise tested at Pease Pottage services today between 12-1pm (just look for the large gathering of Subarus )

thanks to Martyn for coming over to Pease Pottage with the db meter, i think it was mainly positive - most people were either fine, or way over the limit and know not to bother

mine measured 102.8db, whereas Goodwood tested it at 101db a couple of weeks ago, so not too much difference in readings. was interesting that some of the cars were reading louder at lower rpms - they make a louder burble at around 4k rpm that seems to disappear at over 5k.

Remember, if you want to book the sessions at Brands, do it before Tuesday to be guaranteed. After this, MSV will open the sessions up to the public to fill any remaining spaces!

I've just spoken to Nick at ClubMSV for an update of how we're getting on with the sessions.

Despite the list above, we've actually got 9 names on first session, and 5 names in the second session. CJ and Moley are also down to do the full evening (these are separate sessions to the Taster's we are booking).

ClubMSV were going to open up the unfilled spots for general sale today, but they have agreed to give us an extra two days - until Thursday - because of the bank holiday weekend.

There are still a lot of names on the list of unpaid people - if anyone hasn't paid yet, hurry up If anyone else still wants to come along, we're trying to fill the earlier session first so get booking (see the first post in this thread). If you can't make it, let us know!

Brands will also have their photographer there for the shoot and the track sessions, and you will be able to get professional quality pics of you and your car from him (i expect at a small charge per photo)

For people coming to the photo session, we need to be at Brands for 4:30pm so we can get sorted and be on the circuit between 5pm-5:15pm for photos. After this, the normal track sessions start so we cannot wait for late people.

Unfortunately I am going to have to pull out due to work, or lack of it.

Is it possible to have the photo session at the end of the evening so that people wont have to loose time at work?

Well done Steve.
I think the photo sesion has a real chance of turning into a bloomin nightmare, unless we have 100% definates on the list
The reason i say this is myself and Worzel were talking about how and what to do on the day and we need to have a good idea of numbers . Worzel is the piccy man and will i am sure have some good ideas.
Remember guys and girls you are very welcome to join the photoshoot without having to book a track session, although we would obviously like as many as possible to fill the slots of the track time.

I love the way this is turning into a track session rather than the photoshoot?

We can only use the circuit between 5pm and 5:15pm for photos. Brands are going to be leading the group round at low speed (with safety car in front/behind) because the cars out there will not necessarily have signed up for any sessions so need to make sure nobody tries to give it the beans. We'll get to line up on the grid (their photographer will have a ladder to get some good shots from the front) and hopefully another spot or two around the circuit.

Briefing and track sessions start after that, and by the time the sessions are finished the light will probably be too poor for photos anyway.

We'll organise another photoshoot of our own in the future, which hopefully will be simpler for everyone to get to. The problem is that in todays world, why would a circuit like Brands go to the hassle/risk of letting a group of cars out on the circuit, with no profit in return?

This is why we everyone needs to be there at 4:30pm, so we have time to get organised and get out there at 5pm on the dot.

Steve i hear what your saying and agree its turned out that way, i guess what we have learnt is that we need a diferent venue for purely photoshoot type event, we could i am sure use Brands Hatch for a photo shoot if we all paid the going rate for a track session, but its a bit bloomin expensive for for some photos.
There have been some other photoshoot venues bounced around.

Default I'm booked up for the 18:20 session!

Hi all, I just phoned and booked myself on the 18:20 session. I'll be there for the photo shoot too. Does any one have a bung that may fit a TSL group N back box. I had it tested with a Db meter at Pease Pottage last weekend (thanks whoever brought it along!?) and it came out at 102.7 Db which is cutting it fine, so I'm taking a chance and going for it, but a bung may help if any one could bring one along? Otherwise some one can have the session if I'm not aloud to go on.

nice one Darryl, you should be ok at 102.7db.

I had mine tested at PP and it was about 103, but Goodwood tested it at 101db a couple of weeks earlier.

Si - mine was 105db with the bung fitted (tested at Brands)

Passengers can book and pay on the day.

Not getting much joy with the insurers, looks like it'll be £60 unfortunately

That's what Crowmans meter said... Was 118db without (both at 5250rpm)

I'll probably get it tested at Brands to see what they say but I'm pretty sure they won't let me out so I'm not parting with the cash for a session in advance.
