With my v1 sti up for sale, and saving some money here and there in a few months time im gonna be looking at getting a new car. I've pretty much whittled it down to either an Evo IX fq320 or a hawkeye 2.5 sti.
Why should i get an impreza over an evo!? The evo's seem very rapid but i like the boxer noise, interior of the scoob and from what I understand the evo running costs are nuts. Dave

Lol, this is the thing. I am obviously leaning towards impreza but just checking to see if I have the whole story!
What I've been told generally is that the evos are more rapid, and handle better. Also that they are more tuneable in the long run. This isnt an issue straight away as I won't be going too mad and been told 370 is achievable out of the 2.5. Do like the look of the evos too.

i think and from what im told too is that the evo is more exspensive to keep.i drove both on a track day and the evo was super quick, but i was more drawn to the scoob.they are two different cars good ones at that.difficult choice.

I test drove both STi8 & Evo 8 when I was buying mine.
The Evo is without a shadow of a doubt the better out of the box car. But plasticy and a car with no soul. The scooby understeers like buggery and is not as quick point to point as the Evo. But it is a nicer place to be and the car has soul, it's more of a drivers car for sure. I would have always favoured the Scooby side of the tracks until the recent Germany trip, where Niges Evo was just the most phenomenal car. Do yourself a Favour and test drive them both ![]() |

Think the best thing for me to do is get out in both and see which i prefer. Even though i think the evo's look cool i cant stop shaking off how much i like the hawkeyes in white... slap some white 5 spokes on too! I really hope after going out in both of them I have a clear winner otherwise it will be a tough choice as they are both obviously cracking cars. I also really hope its the scoob coz i love the flat 4 burble and have grown rather fond of them having had mine 2 years (longest ive ever owned a car!!!)

The Hawkeye is a fairly easy car to tune and get to 370 plus without too many mod's. Mine only had back box and centre section (both cats left in) and simon got it to 345 ish with 360 ft/lbs torque with a remap. The torque is the big advantage with these cars. To get the burble you will need to change the exhaust as they have a resonated section that kills the noise, they are virtually silent when standard. I will be going further with mine a decatting to release the full rumble as it burbles at low revs, but screams at high revs. I've always preferred scoobs, but have to say after seeing Nige's evo in germany, that was bl00dy impressive, although how much of that is Nige is a question

Alright guys, may have to have a rethink and possible go to a slightly older model, still new age, due to insurance.
Been quoted 2200 off confused. (I am only 22!) Thought Gary @ Keith Michaels may be able to better that by a bit but without doing a full quote he reckons thats probably the cheapest I can get. I could stomach £1800 or there abouts, but bearing in mind thats on a standard car so then would have to wait some time until I could get it up to serious figures.

yeah do want to stay in a scoob but the tuning potential of the evo is appealing! Although as I've said it looks like insurance is going to be rather prohibitive to that end so a scoob would be better. May have to go for a post blob eye (are they called new age?) sti with ppp or something to get the cost of buying it down and the insurance is slightly cheaper.
I wouldnt mind taking a hit on insurance this year if i knew that the premium would go down next year a decent amount but i seriously doubt they will significantly.

What are the spec c's? Are they the more understated ones?

The Spec-C achieves the max torque of 39.2kg by improving the turbocharger and cylinder exhaust efficiency.
Compared to the Impreza WRX STi type RA, Impreza WRX STi spec C is about 90kg lighter through the adaptation of lighter glass, and thinner roof construction and a trunk lid. A rear crossbar has been fitted to further improve body rigidity. The turbocharger in the Impreza WRX STi spec C uses precise ball bearings in the shaft to reduce friction, thereby offering a smooth and speedy turbo boost and providing ideal engine response. Large water reservoir for the intercooler water spray as well as an air-cooled engine oil cooler have been implemented to ensure stable engine performance

It did not help seeing Niges perform in Germany,it looks and sound great, but mind is made up and a scoob it is. The reason being i want something which isnt quite perfect and has soul,as Worzels says. Good luck with what you get mate, and yes the spec c is a wicked car. |
