Default Ring times

Hi

Just joined yesterday & been reading through some recent threads, seems like the 2 quickest S.E Scoobies round the ring are both Evos ??
I`m sure I will get murdered for this but start as you mean to go on LOL!

I agree 100% about Mike L ging round there quickly, he knows his way round and is really into his track stuff.

But just having a powerful scoob won't make anyone go round the ring quickly IMHO. It's all about smooth lines and knowing the track more than anything.

I wouldn't even bother timing yourself until you have plenty of laps under your belt. Ring newbies trying for good times = Armco more often than not.

Mike l & Skullfudge would of gone quicker than at least one of them.I take it you mean me? As Neil is doing sub 8min's. I dont know Mike L but if he's doing 8.48 in the wet then fantastic we can all learn from him. I dont know if Skullfudge has been to the ring as yet. Yes i would of thought he would be quick as he uses his car & can drive. Ive done 15 lap's of the ring & im over the moon with the time's i got. If there was someone else there who is quicker then it would only benifit the rest by following them just to learn more about this fantastic place. Mike L & Skullfudge are more than welcome next year. As ive said before i only wish i had taken up Neil on his offer of instruction. I could myself for not making use of his track nolwedge

Like you said Nige, we can only learn from the likes of Neil & Mike L.

Mate, you should be over the moon with your times, for just 15laps, they are cracking

Tried that - don't help much lol. Its the cambers that'll catch you out - there not in the games at all! All they're good for is getting an idea of if theres a left or right ahead, not much more.

. Done loads of laps on PS3's and X box and they dont even start to give any idea of the place. Haven't bothered since. Just looking forward to getting on track next year

FYI

Although I said I would not time any more laps as it was the first time in the evo X I couldnt resist the last 2 laps (14 & 15) i recorded a 7:56 BTG on an almost empty track including the 30KPH restriction for armco repairs from scwedenkreuz to aremberg which i reckon cost at least 10 secs.
Pretty chuffed with that considering the X`s extra weight and lack of power compared to the 8 although the brakes are awesome and the wide spread of power means half as many gearchanges.
Ray & I have planned another trip august bank holiday week, anyone up for it??

Not that I timed the wet laps but I reckon I was almost as quick on my lap with Neil in the passenger seat as my fastest dry lap on the Saturday! Whole sections that I was braking and anticipating a corner were actually straightlineable!

Would love to come out in august but even if the cars back I'm not convinced it will be fully sorted!

I would love to, but it's my busiest time of the year from now up to the end of August, so will have to say no unfortunately.

I realise that games/sims can be misleading but it does depend on what sim/system you are on.
I have done 100's of laps of Brands (real life) and I was on a TOCA sim once and believe me it was VERY realistic even down to bumps and cambers.
PC's are buy far more realistic than any PS etc.

I know many guys/mates that have done the ring many times and nearly all say that a private session is the only way.
They have also told me that if the P1 was there's, no way would they be on track unless it was a private session. I have never been there, so I listen and respect there comments.
Going on track with a diverse mixture of vehicles/bikes or drivers that for all we know may of only passed there driving test a month beforehand is asking for trouble.
I know how my car can perform, and I know me, and I am not prepared to risk all.
I realise my P1 is a nice example and it's cost me a fortune, so I hope you guys understand where I am coming from.

I would dearly love to have a good 3 / 4 days away with you guys !!

What are your views on a private session?, what do you say chaps ??

no idea about what a private session costs, but i agree about being very cautious about everyone else out there.

I only did 4 laps out there - two on the Friday evening when it was quiet, and two on the Sunday morning at 8am when it was wet. Both times were fine, barely anyone out there.

Know exactly where you are coming from clive,I would be worried too with the P1. I was bad enough with taking mine on, which, lets face it is replacable easily, unlike the P1, and which is why I did the one lap late friday. It was nice and quiet, so I was lucky. Trouble is, the place is like a drug, and now I want more, so will make sure its insured next year and I wont worry so much.

Nothing to stop you coming down next year tho with us and coming and doing some passenger laps to experience it. I heard private sessions were something cray like a 1000 euros?

Thats not a bad price really for the safety of a quiet circuit. Maybe next year as I am literally spent at the mo (pending further mods)

It would be good to see you next year if you can make it mate. That time you did was fantastic in the wet.

Hi Nige

Things up north are fine

Evo is back at mitsubishi having a new transmission as i speak, well type, hopefully back next week.

Let us know if you can do august, the more people the better.

Bit busy at the moment with building project but hot weather is slowing it down .

Just got new rear axle for coz and gearbox should be here soon, next year ring trip is just possible.

Must drop Jimmy & Danny a mail, let me know how the 8 got on at brands.

Speak soon

Neil.
