Mot help needed!

Hi all,my classic sti type r just failed mopt on rear metal brake pipes corroded,any idea how bad as local garage are thinking its terrible and saying £40 ph +vat !!

as i understand it, any corrosion, even if you accidentaly painted a brake line with underseal means it fails the MOT. lines have to be in good condition with no corosion or covering (i.e. paint) which could hide the brake line condition.
I agree they need to be changed.
did they say how many hours they would expect it to take to change the lines n bleed the system?

Unfortunately not,only that it looked a pain as the tank/rear subframe woulkd need to be removed?
I thought they would just cut the old out and fit new as long as they are secured?

mine failed on that last month as thay had corroded. thay go up an over the fuel tank! its a fairly big job but i just gave my car to stewart at east sussex mobile services in berwick who took care of everything inc the mot an his bill was very good to.

iam sorry your wrong, paint/ undersealer dosent have any affect on the mot, its down to the Tester to assess wether its excessively corroded/damaged
Chafing,corrosion ,or damage to,a rigid brake pipe so that its wall thickness is reduced by 1/3 ( eg approximately 0.25mm for a typical hydraulic brake pipe) is a reason for rejection.

have you tried finding out if a smaller section of pipe can be made up to replace the coroded bit?? or does it have to be the whole pipe up and over the tank?? if it does and there is corrosion on your car then be prepared for the repair bill of other corroded parts breaking when the brake pipes are replaced!!

removing the tank can be a pita, if your wanting a more cost effective soloution simply re-route the lines around the side and forget about the old lines running over the top............
