Default Wyedean Rally 2013 - photos (lots)

Yesterday was the first rally i've been to this year and the Wyedean is always a good one. Tbtstt also came along for the day, being a fellow rally nut. Weather was pretty grot on the drive up there - was snowing as we drove across the M4, and we got rained on in stage 1 but it stopped by about 10am and was dry for the rest of the day

Running order on all stages was 1400cc class first, then the Historics, then the quick boys last (4WD plus others). Took over 600 photos so tried to narrow it down a bit!

We managed to get to three stages, a complete mix of conditions. Some fast gravel, some mud roads and some insanely boggy slippery muddy tracks. Anyway, some pics, know some of you guys like to see some rally action

Stage 1 - Sallowvallets

First stage didn't go too well for everyone....

And then we had a 10 minute gap to allow the historics to clear the stage before these guys came through

This bloke covered me in mud, was balls out everywhere using the full width of the road and some more after that!

Stage 5 - Mailscot

Ended up in a real tight section, most of the cars were sliding down the hill just trying to not end up in the trees! Probably the worst section of stage i've ever seen, apart from problems with sheet ice up in the Welsh mountains.

1400cc class winner - Julian Wilkes. Managed 10th overall this year in his Nova, beating plenty of 4wd cars. Excellent driver, he was 3rd overall in the event last year behind two 4wd cars when it was a snow/ice rally. One to watch for the future, for sure

Stage 7 - Speech House

A much faster stage with a lot of straights, some great places to see these cars properly flat out if you want to. Struggled to get parked as most speccys were already in the stage and all the car parks were full. Ended up following a random path through the forest in the rough direction of the stage (including jumping over a stream ) but worked out in the end and we found some great spots.

Just a bit of a shame that the light was fading fast, but still probably my favourite stage of the day.

Bloody hell, that was well over 24 hours before you got them up: what took you so long?!

Great pictures mate. I had a thoroughly enjoyable day and, best of all, the blobeye WRC took the win! Agreed on Speech House being fave stage of the day, pity the light wasn't a bit better so more of it could be captured on camera!

Cheers mate. Was a good say out for sure, and we definitely got let off lightly by the weather considering how much worse it could have been.

Somerset stages are next for me, going down to Porlock for the weekend with Claire as a friend owns a B&B in the village within walking distance of the stage

Yeah, I was fearing the worst when it was snowing on the way down.

Nice! Was just looking on the BTRDA site for the other rounds. None of my WRCar pictures have come out, so I think I'm going to need to go to another rally and try again!

Best rallies at the moment are the BTRDA events, the BRC is a bit dull imo (from a spectator point of view).

Nicky Grist Stages is the next Welsh one for me I expect in July - its a gravel rally in the Crychan, Halfway and Epynt stage area (doesn't go up as far north as Sweetlamb tho). Cracking one this, been twice before

There's also the Mewla in late August which is also up on the Eypnt ranges but is a tarmac event, so a bit different to watch.

Better late than never (and not as good as Mr PPP’s efforts), but some more pictures for the thread…

Picture doesn’t really show it, but this was a ridiculously steep hill with clay all the way down, you could barely walk down it, so it was pretty interesting seeing the cars come down it!

Annoyingly this picture didn’t come out anywhere near as well as I hoped, but event winner Connor McCloskey in his S9 Impreza WRC…

…this was on the last stage of the day and he was on it: went from 4th to 1st in one stage!

Big thanks to Steve again for the day!

Cheers mate! Didn't get anywhere as many shots of the WRCars as I would have liked: will have to try again next time!
