my mot is coming up at the end of september.
my question to anyone that can help, I've recently changed my steering wheel over to a sparco race wheel. My air bag light is on, if i can get it to go off as it should would it pass a mot or would i be better off completely loosing the light. Thanks in advance

Depends if you know a friendly mot tester or a numpty that doesn't know what there looking for. Even if you get the light off permenantly, by the rules the air bag light shud flash on then go off to show the system is working correctly so in theory they can and have failed cars for not functioning correctly by having no air bag light at all!!

I think the light has to be shown lighting up and then going off for an mot, but if they can see you have a non air bag wheel in front of you then i would think they would fail it,but im sure someone will confirm.
easiest thing is just stick your original wheel back on for mot and then swap back over afterwards to be 100% safe, changed mine back to day to the original and took all off 5 mins.

thanks guys. The reason I haven't thought about placing the old wheel back on is because i think o broke the air bag circle thing that also cancels indicators.

If the air light stays on and indicates a fault then its a fail.
If the light does not come on at all its an advisory as its not indicating a fault. It does nt have to follow a sequence like abs. Hope thia helps bud! |

I thought all cars that have an airbag wheel when they leave the factory, now must have them fitted to pass mot as of the recent mot changes. same as the now all drivers seats must be moveable backwards and forwards, so bucket seats in a FIA mounting are now no good, which is a pain as when you mount them on rails they aren't as strong!
depends how by the book the mot tester is though. |

not true at all, there are still (and always have been) specific dispensations for track/rally cars and generally the old rule "if its not fitted its not tested" still applies........... you simply require an MOT tester to actually read the new rules and apply them correctly / even VOSA have confirmed this
