Default Engine management light P2432 code

Hi all, having an issue where the engine management light comes on, the code is p2432, secondary air injection system/ air flow sensor bank 1.
Has anyone had this before or does anyone have a clue what I need to be looking at on my 06 2.5l wrx.
Any help would be much appreciated

Don't know much about the secondary air pump system on the hawks but it looks like an emissions thing introduced on the 2.5's - basically sends fresh air direct into the exhaust for 30 seconds on cold start to get the cats to work faster.

Had a google and some of these links might be useful reading...seems to be an expensive fix if you do it properly, but there's an option to blank them off rather than replace (if yours is at fault) and then remap.

Doesn't sound a cheap & simple fix unfortunately - good luck with it!

Just beat me to it Steve!

Seems a common thread on Scoobynet, most have suggested removing and ‘mapping’ the system out rather then repairing or replacing.

Failure of the secondary air pump is an ever increasing common problem on the 06 onwards models.
It is used to inject additional air into the extracting gasses in order to overheat the catalyst during cold start.
This causes the catalyst to start working alot sooner and hence reducing cold start emissions.

If the unit starts to fail it has no impact on the car other than your slightly noisier cold start may drop in volume to a more natural cold start. The noise you hear in the exhaust (especially modern cars such as Audi RS3, AMG A45 and Supercars) is not so much due to the slightly higher idle at cold start but the action of the secondary air pump heating the catalyst causing bigger disturbances in the exhaust system.

It is possible to disable the error codes and leave the failing pump in situ.
This can be done with a simple re-flash of the ECU with the codes disabled.

On a 2.5 WRX the following codes need to be disabled, to be sure it doesn't log a fault :

1D: (P0410) SECONDARY AIR PUMP SYSTEM: Data

A bit of info :

With this video the dramatic exhaust volume reduction at 52 seconds is the action of the secondary air pump closing and reverting back to a normal raised cold idle.
From my experience they normally run for about 60-80 seconds on a dead cold start.

This is a classic issue with SG9 Forester XTs.

Lots of threads about it on Forester forums, which you might find helpful.

Thanks for all your replies, hopefully get out there tomorrow and check the hoses, take it off and clean it out as well, then go from there.

Looks like it's the relay and it's not powering the pump, pump works when I bypass the relay. Don't suppose anyone knows about relays as a replacement seem to vary. Or does anyone have one not being used.
