Default Smell of petrol

Hi,have just noticed a smell of petrol in the car only when violently accelerating,also seems to be an excessive sound of air.Any ideas,Thanks.

Could be the well know issue with bugeyes and the fuel pipe, check out Nicks post about it, and check through your history. wasnt a recall, but Subaru changed them under warrenty back in the day i think.

I think Steve looked into it too.

yeah, i had mine sorted by Subaru in the end - cost about £300 but didn't think that was bad for dealer prices considering its an intake manifold off job.

however, that problem only normally gives a fuel smell when the engines cold - its a duff seal on a hose that connects the fuel rails which seems to re-seal itself when warm. if you're getting the problem under hard acceleration, i'm guessing your cars already nice and hot - i which case it might be something completely different!

Ditto to that - the fuel rail issue goes away when warm, as it happens I have two full sets of fuel rails spare now!
