Default Inner CV Boot easy to change ????

So the saga continues, Done my rocker cover gasket and pleased with how it all went and relatively easy job that one, and fruther more no more oil leak. Used expensive gasket seal and new gaskets.
But whilst I had everything removed I could see the inner passenger CV boot is split in half

Anyone changed one. ?. Never done one before on Any car. Read somewhere there is a dowl or something that needs to be removed which enables the drive shaft to be pulled from the gearbox ?. Can this be done with the other end all still connnected up to the hub etc ?.

I'm doing all this work and not convinced this car is for me It's stupid quick loosing traction of all 4 wheels in the dry in second, but its all very hard core with the bailey DV and lots of noise and attitude. But I've started so I'lll finish...

Claimed to be 360/360 in a little lightweight classic wagon. At the moment I dont have any reason to doubt its running around that sort of power.

Pub figure wise its not big numbers compared to what else is around, but as a road going car with a VF turbo that spools very nicely, and all in a classic it makes for a very quick road car.

Done some reading on this, and seems to be just a case of cracking the 32mm hub nut with the wheel on the ground, then jack the car remove the wheel, crack the ball joint, then the hub can be moved enough to release the drive shaft at hub end. Then at the gearbox end there is a pin then needs to be driven out, and once done the drive shaft should then pop out the gearbox.

All sounds fairly straight forward and not too bad. But as ever no doubt when I go to attempt it, it will involve a club hammer and some brute force, and plenty of WD40.

I'm Going to replace gaiter with one of these universal stretchy cone type boots. So will be interesting to see how it goes. Will take few pics. I have a few from when I done the headers and some more when I done the rocker gasket so will post some up soon.

The stretchy boots are really good Rob, use them all the time. Have you got the cone for stretching them over?

Just a thought, if you are using the stretchy boot, do you need to pop the shaft out of the diff or can you not put it on from the hub end. Don't know if you've got room to get the clip round the CV joint with it in place. Would also save having to drain the oil from the diff.

Good to hear this mate. Not got a cone, but plenty of choice on Fleebay that offer the cone, and gaitor kit for about £12 all up. I was thinking along the lines you were and stretching it right over from hub end, and can't see that wont work, other than possibly getting tangled up on the outer gator.

Also thought about just cracking ball joint joint, leaving the hub end in place and removing the diff end. Haven't read anywhere about oil coming out the diff so assume there is an oil seal that end to prevent it pissing out.

Will order the part today and will have a go at weekend. I ran out of time at the weekend doing various other jobs and was just going to pay someone, but no local garage I trust can get to it this week. So looks like another day will be spent this weekend mucking about on the car

I'm also in possession of 1/2" drive 32mm long reach hub nut socket if you're stuck.

The cone I have extends far enough over the joint to clear the outer gator as well
