My OE Spec ADL Blueprint has finally started to slip after 6 years.
I had a feeling it was last weekend, but the drive home from Sumo confirmed defo slip in 4th. At no time in the last 6 years was the car running OE power, with the last 4 years runnng 90-115BHP over OE spec. So can't complain. Anyone know what the power/torque ratings tend to be for the Exedy Clutches. Alot of word on the street is that they handle power well, but which one of many to go for. Power will not be staying at 335BHP, but may end up the right side of 350 with the help of a Lateral MD304. So what do I go for ? I'm not after Pub talk, just a clutch that will handle the power. OE Spec Exedy Stage 1 Exedy Or something Else. Last edited by Scott.T; 06-03-2010 at 07:42 PM. |

I'm now on my second Exedy Stage 1 - first lasted 6 months but was incorrectly fitted. Both have juddered badly and I don't think have a very nice feel. Next time I need one I'm either getting the API version of the Exedy or an AP racing one.

I had a API Exedy clutch which also juddered but only sometimes, think they are rated to roughly 400bhp

They all judder, it's a scooby thing.
My standard orginal Subaru clutch juddered so much once I think it's what damaged a gearbox bearing. The ADL judders occasionally too. Was thinking of getting the Exedy from either Scoobyworld or Lateral. |

have been told that the OE Spec Exedy is good for 350bhp+
Angers mate scogsy had OE Spec Exedy on his 400+bhp classic and did many high rpm lanches at shaky race way and held on ok |

I know when i was changing mine Mark wouldn't sell me an Exedy one because of there judder issues, so was recommended a Helix organic one, very pleased with it and have no issues.

I must of fitted maybe 60 Exedy units some even supplied from ebay, The only unit i know of giving trouble was c,js at near 400bhp i think the peddle feels almost if not the same as a standard unit. and for the price is very good value. tone

The muppets didn't use the dowel pins (lightened flywheel fitted at the same time) so the cover plate wasn't correctly aligned!

The other thing that can cause judder is poor fitting and letting the weight of the transmission hang on the clutch splines whilst it is battled into place. twist the friction disc and it will always judder, no matter what or who made it. Dragging the box onto the engine by pulling it in by the clutch housing bolts has a similar effect. |

I have the Exedy single plate organic on my car which i'll be taking to the 400bhp mark, not sure on ft/lb but not far behind.
Clutch has never juddered, well... if it has then not to an extend where it could be identified. Feel very OE too, very pleased and would always recommend.

My old AP Racing single plate lasted over 4 years and over 200 launches on the drag strip... side stepping at 5000rpm +

Ive got an exedy ebay job, no issues with the clutch. No juddering, feels just right and running 300. Only done about 5k on it though.

I have fitted countless Exedy clutches & have never had any judder issues & they handle power really well.
Got one in the Foz & it's had a few launches & is spot on for the money. ![]() |

I am after a new clutch.
Mine is slipping on boost and is starting to struggle with pulling away in gear at lights now so need one sorted. I've looked at the API one and that looks spot on. I'm confused, everytime I think "oh that one looks the ticket" another pops up and offers more and better feel. I've spoken to a bloke on eBay and he will do me a offer on a Exedy Race clutch but one that feels more like a Organic and like OE pedal. I know Becks and CJ use a ACT. But not sure what it's like to drive everyday etc. Ones I have been looking at are Paddle. I think that would drive me mad!! Would you really need to change the flywheel too? Steve
