I have just got back home from being out in the car and i have a whinning noise coming from the car (and its not the wife, she was at home).it gets louded as i put my foot down, sounds like an electric motor or pump spooling up.also when i parked up and turned the steering wheel ,it made a humming noise and felt heavier, which makes me think its the power steering pump.all fluid levels are ok but i get a belt slipping noise when on full lock.
Is there a way of checking the power steering pump??? would it increase in noise the faster i went??? Does the slipping, humming and whinning noises point to the same problem or is the car about to break into song!!!!! ![]() |

noise/pitch would increase with engine revs, not road speed. i.e. the noise at 3000rpm in any given gear would sound the same.
without hearing it i couldnt say for sure, but if your not losing fluid, it may be the tensioner for the steering pump belt rather than the pump itself. this is just me making an educated guess however as i aint had problems with my steering pump on my car and so no experiencein this problem |
