I do, well I bought my Impreza in the off season so havent done anything in it yet, but did 2009 in a Civic Type R and 2010 in an S2000.
Sprinting is a good crack, but if you are hoping for a decent amount of track time relative to cost then it is not great. Over the course of a day you usually get 5 runs (2 practice and 3 'real') which depending on the layout are usually between 60 - 90 seconds each. After each run it is back to the paddock whilst the other competitors all go before you get another crack. As such most of the day is spent talking ******** to other entrants whilst propping up the burger van.
The championship I take part in is mostly airfields so things to hit are few and far between, but we do also get the odd track session at Brands and Lydden. Entry costs (usually) range from £60 - £150.
To be quick at hill climbs usually takes big hairy ones as there is little room for error and often trees/fence posts/other immovable objects ready to slow you down rather abruptly. As my sprint car is my daily drive I tend to avoid hill climbs.
To get involved in MSA events you will need to join a motor club (as they both arrange their own events and get invited to attend others), apply for a non-race national B speed licence (no test required, just paperwork) and have fireproof overalls, gloves and a helmet with a fireproof lining all conforming to certain minimum requirements set by the MSA. It helps to buy the highest standard you can stretch to as the MSA like to change the rules each year. It is not uncommon for people to spend a few hundred on kit that meets the minimum standard only for the MSA to change the rules for the following season.
Anyway, it all tends to get a lot more detailed than that but that is more or less the general gist. Give me a shout if you have any specifics you need/want to know.
Thanks,
Ross
