Yeah I think mine were - but whatever was there isn't there now and the other side looks damaged too... will grab some new drop links and linear locks as Conrad suggests as I don't have those...

Nice, coming along well mate

Shame about the uppipe/turbo stud but that happens. I did my modine top seal recently too as it had been leaking so its probably just an age thing.

Yeah not much could be done - only one stud tho and can be easily replaced so shouldn't effect the sale too much I hope

Modine seal was real surprise as never had an oil leak on my motor.

Droplinks are bigger concern tho - they are only 2yrs and 2300miles old! Pmsl

Noticed Whiteline do replacement bushes for the drop links, a cheaper option than a complete new set. Not sure when they switched from yellow to black polyurethane.

Think my Scoob has done 10k in the 5 years I've owned it, things tend to perish rather than wear out, the Passat on the other hand has done 20k in the last 13 months.

Aslong as the middle mounts are the correct size for that bar and are in good condition Undo the clamps in the middle of the ARB , this will centralise the bar . Giving you around 3mm clearance each side ,
Looking at the pics I'd say tho just a guess that the left hand top link bush is worn too

Appreciate all the feedback guys

Shane I did notice they have changed from yellow to black - good news about the replacement bushes although I fear it may be safer to get the links as it has worn through quite a bit.

Looking at the control arms it does seem the bracket holding the drop links has bent and has a small fracture on it so I would prefer to change these also for peace of mind. Although they are fairly expensive so it will have to wait a bit...

Definitely going to order up the lateral locks for the ARB though

Did you go for the adjustable hardrace lateral arms or normal ones did you also go for whiteline rear droplinks as my hardrace droplinks didnt last so replaced them with whiteline ones .

Well here's the hardline kit that arrived from Alyn today...

4x control arms
2x trailing arms
2x bracket adaptors
2x ball joint drop links

Also had two new exhaust gaskets arrive and the modine top oil seals...

Really not sure tbh Dave - I like my grumble and growl but there is no way it will pass anywhere but Lydden... it needs more thought....

Maybe a cobra track back box which I can swap in and out when needed...

Shinny bits looking good!!
Will handle great . Exhaust wise if you like your system and save some penny's you could have a bubble style silencer fitted in your centre section . That will Bring it down a couple db

Cars coming along tho !!!

Put some grease on the silver joints on the hardrace lateral adjustable arms or they will rust like mine .

Cheers Sam, I have the cobra 3" sports cat system at present but would be great to test and see what difference the track system makes...

Well ive re-booked in with Charlie at SRR for Sat 17th 8:45am to get the true power reading for the car. I have a feeling I know what it is but ill wait until its confirmed.

Going forward, looking at 725cc RCM Injectors as these will comfortably take the turbo I have. Could go 835cc RCM injectors for same cost, but don't see the point as its unlikely I will get a bigger turbo in the next year or two.

Well.........
Got the car out the garage last night, and there was "a noise".... You know the noise....that one that doesn't sound right, doesn't sound normal, but you aren't quite sure whats wrong!

After a quick facetime session with Mr Rob, and numerous texts to Mr Dave, I decided to drive to Charlies anyway and see what was what.

Well as the drive progressed the noise got louder, and louder, and the car got slower, and slower, so driving off boost all the way was my safe method.

Got to Charlie's, and after Dave plugged in it showed some unhappy timing advance.............whatever that is! ha ha

Charlie got in, revved it once, and both Dave and Charlie instantly realised I had blown gaskets on the up-pipe, or manifold.

I coaxed the car back home, and have now ordered up every gasket to ensure I can replace all of them so as to be safe.

Hopefully its nothing more than a gasket and not a hole in the up-pipe or something more serious e.t.c. Shouldn't be the turbo to Up-Pipe gasket as that was brand new two weeks ago when the turbo was fitted.

So after feeling sorry for myself, and ordering the gaskets, I decided to order up a few more parts:
Rear Trailing Arm bolt kit
Rear Lateral Link Bolt Kit
RCM Baffle Plate to go with my RCM Baffled Sump

This should then be all the parts needed to get my gaskets sorted, rear drop links, rear control arms, rear trailing arms all replaced, and get the RCM Baffled Sump and Baffle Plate installed, RCM 11mm Oil Pump, Cosworth Timing Belt Kit fitted, new water pump, and another oil change done.

All hopefully before 15th July when I might finally get to Charlie's and get the car on the Dyno, probably to only find out im getting 355bhp not 380bhp

That is all.........For now......

I have heard stories for and against having both... RCM say both can be used in conjunction with each other and although I know I won't be racing it hard enough to warrant both, at least this way I know I have the best protection I can have

Now - where's that noose!

Shame to hear of the issues mate, with the problem occurring only two weeks after all the work on your car it'll be related. If you don't think its the gasket between uppipe/turbo then i suspect the one at the bottom of the uppipe, could easily have been disturbed during your turbo swap.

Hope you get it sorted easily enough and the figures are what you expect mate

Default The Bug...

I'd save your money with the baffled plate if you can dude, it really is not needed at all with a group N sump.
I reckon it will be manifold to up-pipe gasket, it's not too bad a job to do on yours take half an hour! Good to see you both yesterday!

as above Ryan i thought we had previously had this convo that i wouldn't use a baffle plate with a pukka sump................

exhaust gasket should be easy repair and carry all required on the shelf if needs be

Well car is due to a local MOT place tomorrow to have exhaust gaskets looked at... hoping that's all it is and nothing more serious as driving 150mtrs up the road and I had small smell of burning and little wofts of smoke coming from under the bonnet! Checked and couldn't see anything when static... it's a 8 mile drive to the garage and it's only to see what needs doing so they can quote although will try and sweet talk them to do what they find if they can! We shall see!

Could just be rocker cover gasket weeping and dripping onto headers.

Well none the wiser tbh... up-pipe and turbo to exhaust both seem to be blowing but also turbo making some weird noises so down to Jules on Saturday to see what's going on and hopefully fix enough to get me to Beaulieu on Sunday - time will tell...

Well at Jules with the motor and we have some answers...

Turbo to exhaust - one bolt not put on bottom when turbo installed allowing gasket to blow...

Up-pipe - two nuts put on one bolt so one bolt not having nut on also caused blow...

Few more bits come off car for upgrading...

Well that will be the problem then, I'm surprised it wasn't blowing from the start.

A small blow like that is going to make nigh on no difference to spool so pretty undetectable from a mapping/ECU perspective. A split up-pipe flex joint is a bit easier to spot due to the hole tending to be alot bigger.

A bit of a slap dash fit though TBH!

Well gaskets sorted, and hardrace suspension bits all installed and waiting for geo setup Tuesday...

Once geo setup is done then all adjusters will be greased up to prevent rust...

Also ordered uprated injectors so that I have no components restricting performance at all - and also future proofs the car should I decide to go 2.1 stroker and bigger turbo next year.

Finally, I am speaking with cobra exhausts about supplying a 3" pipe track back box only so I can swap it on and off when I feel like being brave again

During this week Jules will be installing RCM Baffled Sump, cosworth timing belt kit and pulleys etc, new plugs, new oil & filter, coolant change, fuel filter, RCM 11mm uprated oil pump, new water pump, and the RCM catch can I nabbed of C.J if we can find somewhere to mount it...

Then hopefully I collect the car next sat all sorted

Ok so because I'm an untrusting so and so - I decided to do some research on the "SC38" I bought.

Now I believe (and I am not the most knowledgable by any means) that an SC38 is meant to be an 18g turbo.

Although scoobyclinic don't state a grammage on their website, having read some forumns I believe the general
Rule of thumb is:
SC36 - 360bhp - 16g
SC38 - 380bhp - 18g
SC40 - 400bhp - 20g
And so on.....

Well I took a look at my Blouch Turbo box that the new "SC38" came in. There was an "SC38 Billet" sticker placed over the blouch product code however it was also on the bottom...

So I looked on blouch website to confirm what I was reading and indeed - the barcode product is actually a 16g not 18g - so I believe actually an SC36.

Now my order was delayed by some 2-3weeks with "customs clearance" being stated as the reason - after much chasing it finally arrived. I am now wondering whether I got sent something else just to ensure I got something as it was so late.

Strangely blouch reckon their 16g Turbo can make 410bhp but I haven't read anywhere of 16g turbos making that sort of power (again I am happy to be proved wrong).

Now this all stems because when mapped, I got only 355bhp from a setup that "should" have given around 380bhp at least.

People's views and thoughts?

I have also emailed scoobyclinic for their opinions.

Ryan

Indeed - I feel my only problem may be it was originally bought on the 17th January, but not installed until 30th May so only been on car 2 months and covered a couple hundred miles...

If Scoobyclinic sold you something that was branded up to be one thing and turns out it's something else I think you are totally in the driving seat.

Well I have a reply from Scooby clinic stating they re-boxed it as the SC38 box was dirty! What codswallop.. he has confirmed that an SC38 should indeed be an 18g so he wants pics as he thinks he can tell visually..... hmmmmm

One thing to consider with the hard race arms is rather than greasing the adaptors put some waxoyl or similar on them (dinotrol clear would be good). This will mean they are a bit harder to adjust in the future wth cleaning needed etc. but at least they will adjust!

Hi mate - what would be handy is if you could measure the internal diameter of the inlet...

Scoobyclinic are telling me the SC36 is 38mm Inlet internal diameter and the SC38 is 42mm..

So if u could confirm that it would be great as I'm back to Jules tomorrow with digital callipers to measure.

If indeed it is an SC36 then Scooby clinic have agreed to swap it which is a result, although after asking for a list of mods they reckon they have had issues with customers using cobra systems that can take 30bhp off the power...

Guess I'll find out tomorrow for definite - but scotty if u could give me that measurement it would be superb!

Ryan

Well the jury is still out with the turbo, so waiting for more info.

In the meantime, cosworth timing belt kit all fitted, water pump all done, 11mm uprated oil pump all done, modine seal done, plugs changed, fuel filter changed.

Thurs eve is sump, and then no doubt more detective work on this bloody turbo!

RCM injectors have just arrived, so that will be sorted soon.
